On arrival we were very impressed by the characterful, historic buildings and the hotel parkland gardens. Set near to the River Vienne and just a few kilometers away from the pretty historic riverside Loire valley town of Chinon. From the hotel chateaux and monasteries of the region are easily accessible.
The staff of the hotel were charming and we were shown to our room and informed of the many historic architectural attractions of the region. The bulding which contained our bedroom was separate from the reception and restauant building and, unlike the pleasant reception area, was cold and the interior decorations were rather bland. The room was similar in feel although facilities were adequate. We didn't pay for a top class room which might have been a better choice. The resstaurant was pleasant enough to look at, but not very warm (it was early October), but the food was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was more than adequate as well. On leaving the following morning we were again greeted and checked out by a charming receptionist.
We only stayed one night, and although the surroundings are lovely, and we would like to spend longer exploring the Western Loire region, we would would prtobably choose a more comfortable hotel.
