Great value and location!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Sept 2012
I stayed here in August with my partner and our 4 year old daughter. The location is great, staff very friendly, food buffets just delicious... and my little girl loved going off to Kids Club whilst I went to the Spa for wonderful massages. We were also lucky to find a fab taxi driver thru the Concierge. The driver's name is Nheng and he will pick you up and drop you off like a private driver and give you a phone so you can ring him when you are finished shopping and want to go home! I have his number if you need it...
Only fault with the hotel. The rooms are a bit dated and the bathrooms floors seem to be constantly wet due to the shower over the bath scenario. We were there in wet season avoid Block 2 as the frogs outside the rooms at night were ridiculously loud. We got moved to Block 1 which was heaven!!
Thailand is amazing i will go back again within 12 months. great people, great value and great food.

Room Tip: Block 2 no frogs!

We have just stayed at this hotel. We travelled with our 3 teenage children. I admit I am selective with my hotels and I was very apprehensive about this hotel. The only reason I booked was because our friends had booked before I could talk them into somewhere else.
I was very disappointed with the pool view rooms. They are very old and I feel in some need of TLC. They definitely didn't measure up to my cleanliness standards.
I complained about the sub standard of the rooms and one of the two good things I discovered in this hotel Julianne the manager came to our aid. Julianne is truelly a wonderfully helpful and lovely person. She up graded us to the privilege club deluxe rooms. The only deal was we had to use the family pool as our youngest is 13. These rooms were much better not fantastic but better and I thank Julianne for making the effort to make us comfortable.
Breakfast was the only other good thing I can say about this hotel. Selection was good and omelets were tasty.
The main family pool has some serious green scum growing on the rocks and some other places and the kids said there were bits floating all through when they dived down with their goggles on. I do grant the hotel was attempting to clean it after we complained (again).
Bow at the concierge was very friendly and the girls at the front desk also were good and a few in the restaurant weren't bad but others were rude and the maid that cleaned our rooms I though was lazy and I was not impressed when the day before we were due to leave my daughter discovered her bank card was missing from her suitcase. She had placed some papers and her card from her purse in a side pocket in her case so that she would not loose them out on the street on our 2nd day there. My other 2 kids saw her place it in her case and none of us could find it anywhere when we were due to leave. By chance I asked the same lazy maid when she came to our room to spray for mozzies if she had found a bank card in the kids room. She was a bit hesitant then she said one moment and went to her cart and pulled the card straight off her cart and said she found it in the bin a few days ago. In any other hotel the card would have been left on the side in the room for us to see or handed to the front desk to be given back to the rightful owner.
Then on check out the same lazy maid told us that there was a large bottle of water missing from the mini bar in the kids room. Trivial I know but I had just placed everything back in the fridge myself as we never use the mini bar and place everything from it on the shelf above and upon leaving we put it all back in there I know there was nothing touched in that mini bar. I had a few words to say but paid as we needed to leave. Just as we were getting into the taxi they tried to delay us because the maid couldn't find a robe in the kids room. All my kids swore that they never touched the robes and they were in the cupboard. It was until I got angry and threatened to report the bank card incident that they found the imagined missing robe.
Our friends complained that everyday they were charged for something out the mini bar which they didn't use and also who ever heard of a hotel that charges you for a bucket of ice. I have never paid for ice ever but here was a first.
Would I ever go back NEVER apart from the location being difficult with the large hill and no shuttle after 9pm to take you to the top I wouldn't pay 4star prices for a 3star hotel.

Room tip: only go to Privilege Club rooms if you feel you want to stay

I was there with my wife and children three wonderful days. One of the best hotels in Phuket. 200 meter from hotel to the beach. Free taxi will take you to the beach (about 300 meters from the hotel) Highly recommend this resort!

Me and my girlfriend had a room in the privilege wing with a pool view. The staff was warm and very welcoming. This isn't your typical party resort that you would find in Patong, this place is a little more off the beaten path in Karon Beach so this is a great place to just relax and unwind. You are only a free 15 minute shuttle ride to the downtown Patong Beach, free shuttle rides are provided by the hotel a few times a day. Most everyone was a bit older than us, I would say around 40 years and older but we still made some really good friends. They have a bar in the swimming pool that you can swim up to. Also included with the privilege wing is an open bar and snacks from noon-2pm. The resort is about a 5 minute walk to the beach. Overall I give this resort a 10 out of 10, this review reflects my stay in the privilege wing, your experience may differ if you do not stay in the privilege wing.

Room tip: It is worth the extra money to stay in the privilege wing. Free alcohol from noon-2pm, a private pool for the 12 rooms that share the wing, free breakfast and dinner, and best of all...NO KIDS. The photo I am attaching with this review is the view of the pool from our balcony.

Stayed at the Horizon Karon in July 2012 on a family holiday. The resort is absolutely fantastic and offers all of the services and amenities you require, plus more. We stayed for 11 nights, and our rooms were always spotlessly clean and featured a king size bed, TV and DVD player, small fridge, a safe, and excellent air conditioning. I cannot praise the staff enough as they were ever helpful and very friendly. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful with an abundance of flowers, gardens and ornaments. The food is also of a high standard and one is spoilt for choice at the buffets, particularly breakfast (note the excellent waffles and Thai pancakes). The Horizon is in a quieter area of Karon (about 20 minutes from Patong), but there is still a number of places to eat, shop, look at or walk to just down the street and provides a nice alternative to the hectic city.

As the hotel is situated on top of a hill (although a courtesy tuk tuk service is operated by the hotel to take you down or back up if you so desire) and features a number of stairs due to the flowing way the resort is set out, it might not be ideal for the very young or elderly. The only criticism I have of the Horizon Karon is that the WIFI is significantly over priced (1,000 Baht for seven days), particularly given that the signal can be rather temperamental and has a number of black spots throughout the resort, and the shower takes a rather long time to heat up. Despite these minor issues, the Horizon Karon Resort and Spa is an excellent hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

My husband & I returned to Phuket after 2 years. Our first trip was in the heart of Patong (see previous review), so we decided this time, we would stay in Karon & with the 12 night deal we got with our travel agent, it was truly the BEST decision ever.
Congratulations Horizon Karon Beach Resort - you truly look after your guests!!
Very relaxed, welcoming atmosphere - loved it - loved it - loved THEM!!
Accommodation in the Horizon Wing, 2nd floor, Pool View Room, was most satisfactory for our needs; yes the beds were firm, (I liked & the husband got use to it - didn't stop him from snoring)!! - they were attended to promptly and replenished with clean bath & pool towels, linen & water, with a spray of the room for any insects every day. We had a tour from another guest who was staying in the Club Wing, yes the rooms were bigger with some little extras - (no turn down service - I asked this question), yes it was only for adults - but - The Club Wing Pool was like a Lap Pool, no lush foliage & definitely NO escaping from the eyes of other guests, (in & around the pool) - everyone can see into the Club Room Pool Access room (if curtains not closed). Would I pay extra for just the room? NO!!
Included in our stay daily was our buffet breakfast - ample variety; buffet dinner with a different menu theme every night, entertainment & the friendliest, most obliging staff. Most of the Club Guests came over for breakfast & dinner every night - WHY? Cause this is where the action was! LOL
Horizon also offers, COMPLIMENTARY, Tuk-Tuk up & down the hill to Karon Beach (husband enjoyed the rides back up). Shuttle Bus Service daily into Patong - book with Bell Boy!! Excellent kids club facilities, Air conditioned Gym, Library & Coffee Lounge & a Mini-Mart. (Just check some use-by dates e.g. milk - only fault of the Resort).
If there are any enquires or concerns about the rooms, the stairs, medical, late check out. The reception staff will only be too happy to assist!
Some of the things we did outside the Resort. Markets in Karon, Kata & Patong - couldn't believe how many Indians have taken over the many stalls now. Karon - Thai Local Market at the temple only on Tuesday's & Saturdays, (starts at 3.30pm). Massages at Cordia Spa & Kata Day Spa. Simon Cabaret, Dino Park Mini Golf, Day Trip to Coral & Racha Islands, Bangpae Waterfall & Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre, The Big Buddha - (blessed by the monk, very moving experience). All of these I recommend.
If we got hungry through the day & we were out of the Resort I recommend, MaMa's Restaurant (near Karon Hilton Hotel) & Kata Villa Restaurant (at the bottom of our hill- they also do take- away).
The Thai people are beautiful & always smiling. At times there is a language barrier, they may not understand & WILL just smile - so be polite!! Sawadee Kha

Room tip: If you don't like alot of stairs - ask for Rooms 1201-1208 or 2101-21--?
