Firstly, I will echo one of the guests below where we all experienced Cyclone Oma (delays, checking its slow slow movements, grid positions, and knots of wind). IT added to the experience at the resort which is superb in every way. The management greetings and walkabouts, the chefs, the waiting staff, the cleaning staff everyone!
We had actually stayed next door at Sunrise not realising we had booked a resort so close by, but the two resorts are different - one intimate and the other Barrier Beach Resort more extensive, and its restaurant offering meals most of the times, which is probably wanting of a place that is quite remote from the town and markets. The town is about 20mins drive. However the resort is nearer to a golf course (a road leading to it requires the car to drive left and right avoiding the potholes), 3 blue holes, horse ranch, canoeing within about 20 mins. Port Olry is about 40-50mins drive but worth a visit beacuase of the quietness of the place and a lovely beach with a beachside open restaurant.
Calvin and Julie are wonderful hosts and they helped the guests including ourselves with several flight delays due to Oma winds. We felt safe and it good hands. It allowed us to saty an extra few days to enjoy the sun and calmer weather as the storm started moving south west towards QUEENSLAND!.
The fare we stayed in were excellent, including the executive suite which was HUGE. We moved to another fare during our flight delays, and whilst a standard size, the shower toilet area is exactly the same size as the executive Fare. Spacious with his and hers sinks. Probably the one thing I would as management to consider is to provide racks to hang our bathers outside. The fares offered privacy and comfort. Our aircondition wasn't that strong but we really did not mind as we could open the windows a bit (screened) and had the fans on high speed. However I imagine in the hot weather it might get uncomfortable for some. But a dip in the lovely waters will solve all this. Wifi is excellent. Power was a bit disrupted but the resort has backup power so a short interruption was all we experienced. We are in the islands after all and it made up for an exciting time and stay at the resort. The beach is lovely, we did not see the dugong, we kayaked however due to the rains, the water was a bit murky but it was nice and warm and comforting to just sit in the water - you avoid the mosquitoes as well this way. There are mosquito coils which I only lit after we were bitten sitting outside not realising their were coils inside. Once lit, it was fine.
Overall it was a lovely stay, (wet, windy) but enjoyable with good food, wine and excellent hosts.
