For the money, this is a fine place to stay. Your a block from the beach access which you can see from your balcony or roof top. Its located next to the baseball field which they convert to host different events such as rodeos, which are cool to watch from the roof top! Your a stones throw from the laundry mat which is cheap and they do nice job of cleaning and folding your clothes.
There are several restaurants that we really enjoyed. Trevor at Taco Maya is 30 steps away and does a great job on breakfasts. Las Brujitas also does wonderful breakfasts as well as dinners. La Terracita was our favorite local dinner. If you want to catch a football game with some cold beers, stay close at the Bull Pen (in same building down stairs, Marteen is great!). The best food that we found was at Crabster over in Progresso (about 15 minutes away). They were more expensive but well worth the money. Carlos will make sure everything is right!
The great thing about this place is it can be as relaxing as you want or you can find so much to do. You can stay in and read a book. You can walk to beach. You can go to the Chelem town center. There has been a small fair here every time we come to Chelem. You can drive to one of the many Ruins in the Yucatan. Many of the Ruins have Cenotes that you can swim in, both above ground as well as in caves. You can drive over to Progresso and walk the Malecon and go thru the tourist shops. There is a small water park on the way to Merida which is another story all together.
If you need dental work done but can't afford the US prices dentists charge. Dr Javier Camera Patron is the best dentist. He and his staff speak English very well. He has a very nice office in Alta Brisa. The prices can't be touched in US, I am very happy with my dentist, Dr Javier! It takes 30 minutes to drive from this location to Quality Dental.
There were some slight negatives.
1. AC is only in bedroom and can't be run thru the day while your not there. If you want it during the day you have to pay a little extra. That's because electricity isn't billed the same in Mexico as US. This wasn't a big deal for us, we paid a little extra to get the ac more.
2. There was no oven in the kitchen. Food was so cheap to go out, why would you want to cook???
Overall we think this is a great town to visit for a family or as a couple. We will be going back often! If this place is available, We will definitely consider staying here again.
We have been staying in one of Jill and Martin's apartments while we look around the area to settle down into retirement. You could not ask for a better place to land, Jill and Martin are dedicated to making your stay comfortable and relaxing. They are excellent hosts and share their knowledge of the area and have assisted us with things we never expected (like sorting out a cellphone) and introducing us to their friends and neighbours. The apartments are wonderful little refuges with very comfortable kingsize beds, air con in the bedroom if you need it, wifi and a lovely pool area. We are very lucky that we found this place and Jill and Martin.
