Casa Poggio is heaven. Perched high on a hill surrounded by olive groves and magnificent views, one can see Rome without out actually having to leave the sun lounger!
We were there in the height of summer and just relaxed and unwound, but for true luxury go when the autumn mists roll in and the olives are ripe for the picking; or even in winter when the fire's lit and the underfloor heating is on. There are fabulous mountains to climb, etrustcan ruins to explore, world heritage villas to visit and all of Rome to explore, if you can just leave the view.
We found our little corner of heaven at Casa Poggio. We headed there after a couple of heat-fuelled, fun days of slogging round Rome in early September.
We arrived in the dark but knew immediately we would love this place; the sound of the crickets, the warm but not insufferable temperature at 9 pm and the scent of the herbs in the garden wafting by us as we sat on the outside terrace for a much-needed glass of wine and a bowl of pasta.
None of could wait to see what lay around us early next morning as shutters creaked open to gasps of delight and one by one we headed outdoors. Memorable moments.
We came as a family including and 8-month old and wanted for nothing; the house so well thought through and equipped with everything we needed including precise details of shopping, eating, walking, visiting and culture.
The weather varied from scorching heat to immensely exciting thunderstorms, and each change brought a different beauty to the landscape; I have never been on a summer holiday where I couldn't care less about the rain.
We would go back in a heartbeat.
