Just two minutes from the ferry from Naples, the location is so handy for the beach, shops, restaurants, the evening "passeggiata" and visiting the varied, beautiful sites and beaches of Ischia. Having a pool one can easily have a sunbed or relaxing chair at any time without having to go to any trouble.
The hotel reception, Antonio, was efficient and friendly. Our room, 311, was spacious and a large balcony with table and chairs overlooked the pool. The king size bed was comfortable with good bedding. Cleanliness was excellent throughout the hotel. Toiletries were minimal but sufficient, restocked every day. The only downside of the room was the smallness of the shower cubicle.
Certainly top quality were the food offerings. Breakfast has plentiful coffee and a good selection of cereals, fruit, bread, croissants, hams, eggs. A hot breakfast was not offered but supply was not a problem and it's freshness assured.
We were half-board. We always chose the evening meal, which dishes you chose in the morning. Out of 10 days, I chose fish 8 times because of the freshness of the local product and the top quality cooking. The food was delicate and delicious. Pasta and risotto, of course, were superb. Vegetables tasty and fruit and water melon just right.
I was very impressed by the whole dining experience from the quality of the food presented to the atmosphere in the dining room. Our waiter most days was Franco who was a joy. In fact all the waiters and maitre d' were both professional and " simpatici ".
All staff were brilliant. To emphasise the point. My wife dropped a playing card onto a flat inaccessible roof. Going to reception, Mariangela, a young receptionist recovered it for her immediately using a broom .
We very much enjoyed our holiday in Ischia, helped to a large extent by the lovely people at Hotel Terme Oriente.
On the beach I read , "Teach us to sit still" , by Tim Parks. One man trying to come to terms with an illness and what it might mean. His reflections on his upbringing, family, lifestyle and behaviours. His quest to carry on. I think he understood when he was able to accept, "Never celebrate when you have a good day. Never despair when you have a bad day. " As our George used to say, " Turned out nice again. "
