This was our first visit to Domaine de Nesvres. We received a very warm welcome and as it was a very hot day were immediately offered a cool drink. Adeline kindly offered to put my cases of wine into their cellar as it was a hot day - how kind. The buildings are medieval (in the best sense of the word) and we were fascinated by their history. Being old they had some restrictions, long & wide staircase to the rooms.
We had a very nice room with a double bed (for which we had requested) with plenty of space and good facilities.
The evening meal, shared with the owners and other guests, was ample and delicious, accompanied by appropriate wine. Breakfast was also very good.
There is plenty of private parking. We will certainly return for a few days stay.

Room Tip: Some rooms look into the quadrangle of the building, others look out over the fields - make your cho...

Alastair Sawday's "Special Places to Stay" in France has been our bible for the last 3 years and has never, until now, disappointed. Although Adeline and Michel were delightful hosts and Adeline's evening meal was lovely the standard of accommodation fell well short of what we were expecting.

Our bedroom, accessed by via a steep stone staircase, was very, very basic. The bed was more akin to a camp bed, the bed linen hard and the en suite was minute; the shower looked like it needed a good clean and the towels were hard. No complimentary toiletries or tea/coffee making facilities either.

This was one of several B&Bs we used for a 10-day visit to France and just was not up to scratch. The building is indeed historic but sadly the accommodation falls well short of "the Sawday" standard that we have come to expect.

The Internet / Wifi is only effective in two public rooms but not consistently and not in the bedroom.

The price for the room was significantly higher than for better fitted and finished rooms locally. The price for the good meal is comparable to the price of a better meal in a good restaurant locally.

We won't use it again.

We were disappointed, especially after reading the web site advertising and other comments here, to find that our twin bedded room was very small, the en suite was minute and was fitted with old and in some cases broken/unsafe fittings.

This was one of several B&Bs we used for a two week visit to France this summer. The building is indeed historic and but sadly is no longer in good condition.

The hosts are charming and the one evening meal offered was good... but not outstanding.

For small families, as a one night stop en route with a meal, it may be fine. But in view of the upper floor location of our room and at least 3 others, via a staircase with steep and small stepped stairs we would not commend it to for a couple, especially an older couple or anyone with mobility problems e.g.. after limb surgery (of which the hosts were aware before the booking).

Be clear this is NOT an Hotel but a special and large family home with some B&B rooms. Also, the FREE Internet / Wifi is only effective in two public rooms but not consistently and not in the bedrooms, except in one and then only reliably in the one window opening - the thick stone walls may be the limitation. The price for the room was significantly higher than for better fitted and finished rooms locally. The price for the good meal is comparable to the price of a better meal in a good restaurant locally.

We won't use it again.

Room Tip: It is a quiet spot easily accessible from the Autoroute. The hosts are charming. One night en route...

From the moment Michel meets you at the gate to the moment you leave, this is a welcoming home. The rooms are done like guest rooms in an eccentric French uncles house with photos on the walls, rustic furniture and splendid farm views from every window. We had pre-ordered a dinner and it was one of the best meals I've ever had in France. Home made, prepared with all the love and attention in the world by Adeline, the lady of the house. She's a gifted cook and we were the lucky beneficiaries. Each course was a marvel topped off by a meringue and fruit dessert that had the kids in ecstasy. A perfect breakfast the next day saw us all set for the road. I can't recommend this place enough. If you're driving through, be sure to order the dinner - home cooked French food is loads better than any pretentious Michelin star place. Michel and Adeline want to sell and move so if you're in Burgundy, take the opportunity to visit this wonderful place while you still can.

A B & B which can be highly recommended. It has a gentle homely touch by serving tea and good food. When sitting at the dinner table we felt that the hosts were like good old friends. They cared for us and they engaged in plenty of topics. What more can you ask for?
