“Lovely, rustic and very French. We loved it!”
Reviewed 19 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

I was so surprised to read the awful review just left by an obviously very grumpy person. We could not be talking of the same place? Rochebonne is welcoming with lots of little (free!) extras, it is friendly, very french although the owners are English, well situated for visits and sandy beaches, and I also find the price fair. What more can I say, we are all different with varied degrees of expectation. We love Rochebonne and would recommend it to anyone prepared to experience a really French, relaxing holiday.

Thank you very much for this lovely review and for backing me after the rotten review recently left. Most people love the property and it is so hurtful when somebody is nasty like that. It is always the same type of person too! thanks again and we'd love to welcome you in France next year if you are holidaying in our area again.

“Deceitful Crooks, go anywhere else or stay at home.!!!”

The owners have given up and gone off, leaving part time staff to pop by poorly running it, the place is unloved and tired. The management is a total shambles!! They will ask you for extra money for everything - electric, heating, towels, bedding, wifi even your pets are charged for twice if they are the wrong size. They haven't the faintest idea how many nights you are booked in for and charge you extra nights even though you have paid for a week. Staff walk straight into your property without knocking. Bath taps are capped off so you cant use the bath. Plug sockets are all broken. Damp smelly area at back door. Supplies are mean - not even a cup of tea is provided for you after a long journey, nor a salt n pepper shaker, no soap, toiletries, just one toilet roll is supplied and a mosquito spray can. Pool was filthy with insects and toilet roll from day 1 to 7 of our stay it was never cleaned or filtered (no skimmer) and it certainly was not solar panel heated as informed.! To finalise our pets were itching with fleas and my legs had flea bites on them, the place is alive with mosquitoes and the owner stole our breakages deposit even though the staff cleared the property as spotless and promised to post the cheque in two days - it had been cleared in the bank two days before we even left. The best thing about this place was eventually being able to leave and come home. I am happy for anyone to apply for email proof that the price of our stay was for a week, not 4 days and then 6 days as the owner claimed, and that the price we paid included everything and our pets, even though they charged us again, they are advertising this property in Rochefort which is why its very hard to find reviews on them and they will probably change the name of the cottage to remove this review and swipe the slate clean again..!! Absolute Crooks!! I recommend you go anywhere else or stay at home.

Dear oh dear oh dear ! But I am afraid we have our opinions about you too, and people who do not read the terms and conditions, the details and prices provided and complain constantly (the fleas were from your pets - the ONLY animals there) do tend to get short shrift. Our properties are all spotlessly clean, we get lots of good reviews and lots of re-bookings ... so I rest my case. There was indeed a muddle over your dates (the only true thing you have said) but it was quickly resolved. We, by the way, were away for 2 weeks on our own holiday. I have to tell you you were put on the "liste rouge" on the first day you were there, and we would not have you back. Sorry.

“A Great French Holiday!”

We have just returned from staying in Le Logis at the Chateau Rochebonne in the Charente Maritime, relaxed, refreshed and with lovely memories of a varied and interesting trip. Our accommodation provided everything we needed on our lovely french holiday. When we ate in, we had the choice of a well-equipped kitchen or barbecue and innovative 'at table' cooking al-fresco in our own private garden. A great feature was the large open-plan living area inside with plenty of space to spread out and do your own thing (important to teenagers who also loved the sky tv!) The super big communal pool is a great feature and kept our boys active while we relaxed, lovely in the evening sun after being out all day. With the stunning atlantic coast a short drive and many lovely towns including those on the Ile d'Oleron close by we had loads to do rain or shine. A particular highlight was the great cycling straight from our villa, very flat with many cycle paths and lots of interesting birds and wildlife to spot - heaven!

“A wonderful stay”

We have just returned from the most relaxing and comfortable stay at Logis de Rochebonne. Our cottage was furnished and decorated in a charming French style yet had the all the amenities that one could wish for. Our hostess and host, Catherine and Bruce were warm, friendly and helpful at all times and gave us lots of information about local sights and excellent nearby restaurants. We were 'en famille' with our teenage children plus our twin toddlers and the facilities offered provided the perfect base for a family holiday. The warm pool and comprehensive play area entertained all age groups, leaving the adults to relax with a glass of wine. Bliss! We shall definitely be returning next year!

“Fantastic holiday - would have loved to stay longer!”
Reviewed 10 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed in one of the cottages with our 17 year old son and 17 year old nephew. The rustic style of the cottage was beautiful and it had all the amenities to make the holiday easy - washing machine, dishwasher, microwave etc etc. We particularly liked the outside bbq and private garden and as the weather was so amazing we ate outside 6 days out of 7. The outside play facilities are particularly good and our son and nephew swam/played in the pool each day and sometimes twice a day. The housekeeper was helpful.
We were recommended a bicycle company who delivered bikes right to our cottage at a reasonable price. The British husband and wife who run this company were very helpful. As the area is flat it is very easy to cycle quite a distance on many of the cycle paths or quiet roads. We went to Ile D'Oleron one day and Ronce on the other.
The local restaurants were amazing and offered delicious fish and shellfish at reasonable prices. We recommended La Cayenne area in Marennes. Marennes, the local town is pretty and has a stunning church in the centre. It has a few little bars and also a well stocked Intermarcher supermarket.
Overall the holiday was fantastic and there was so much to do. The local boat taxi's are fun and the Fort near the bridge to Ile D'Oleron is worth a visit.
Can't wait to return to France.
