My family & I of 3 generations, children and dogs just had a perfect week staying at Avondale Riverside.
Our host Sheila was lovely and made us feel very welcome with a scrumptious welcome hamper on arrival. We were soon tucking in to the scones with jam and clotted cream. The dogs were made welcome too, with doggy treats and a water bowl ready after their long journey.
We were struck by the size of the dining room, lovely big table for all the family to sit and eat together. Everything was of excellent quality. The beds were very comfortable and all was very clean.
Lots of bathrooms and even a jacuzzi bath which was most enjoyable.
It was the Hot tub that drew myself, my daughter and my son- in- law to the property in the first place and we really enjoyed relaxing under the stars in the evening once the children were asleep in bed. absolute bliss!
The location was perfect , just on the edge of Bath which we visited several times, but only short distances to many other towns and cities. We were out and about every day; visited Gloucester, Wells, Bristol, Chippenham, Devizes for the canal and Caen Hill Locks and Cheltenham for the GWR preserved railway.
It was a lovely week for us all. The dogs really enjoyed it too. It is a pleasure to find such beautiful accommodation that welcomes dogs ( there are a few doggy rules) and children.
The one comment I will make though is that the lawned garden on the ground floor riverside really should be gated and secure so that children and dogs could be able to go there. As we were there in Autumn it wasn't a problem as they didn't want to play outside once we arrived back but for summer visitors it means constant supervision if children are to play on the lawn. It is a private drive way but still possibility of very young children wandering off. The secure pebbled courtyard at the higher level was great though just to let dogs into but not ideal for children.
Overall, we had a fabulous week and would love to return someday.
Thank you very much Sheila.
We hired out these apartments for a hen do last weekend. Brilliant time had by all!
The house has everything you need, and has lots of small touches like a fruit bowl, a hamper with champagne & scones, shower gels, face packs and chocolate, bread and milk.
We arrived and then was met by Sheila, who was extremely helpful and friendly. She went through the "rules" for recycling etc which was useful as it is different to our borough. You can tell she takes a lot of pride in her property and just wants to keep it nice for every future stay, which I think is a good thing. The hot tub was lush, and the towelling robes were a great touch.
We couldn't fault Sheila or Avondale Riverside, it was all perfect for us, and I'd definitely recommend it.
I stayed here with my family and a little surprised to see that the owner had requested on a note to all guests visiting this property not to give any bad reviews on TripAdvisor until discussing with her first. I believe people should be able to give their feedback in an open honest forum.
This property was certainly not child friendly as the garden opened on to a road where cars were often seen pulling in. We were unable to lock the door that led to the rear staircase which was very steep as the owner did not have a key and no baby gates were provided either. With my 18 month old nephew who is very curious it was a little worrying.
There was an unpleasant musty smell of damp on arrival (coming from the unlocked stairway that led to the unlocked basement), which was a concern so needed to open all the windows and doors to get some fresh air through. You have to pay an extra £80 for use of the hot tub, which only adults are allowed to use my elder nephew who loves hot tubs was most disappointed. The noise from the traffic and the trains passing does not make for a peaceful environment you are able to park two possibly three cars on the drive however it is extremely tight and awkward to maneuverer but it is possible, alternatively you can park in the lower car park, which is also used by people going to the studio located next door. We attempted to walk along the river from the rear of the property but it's not possible as you need to walk along a busy main road. Thankfully as a family it did not ruin our weekend but only fair to share my comments with others so any new visitors are not disappointed on arrival.
This is a lovely homely house with a great host, Sheila. Everything was available from the welcome pack to the hairdryer in the bedrooms. It was an ideal base for our group of adults wanting to park 3 cars and a motorbike, and to catch the groupsave on the bus into the city. Beautiful gardens to sit out in and lovely walks all around. Will visit again next year, thank you Sheila for a wonderful stay.
