Villa Evanthia is absolutely fabulous and we would definitely recommend it with 5 stars. Our party of 4 adults and 3 children have just returned from a fantastic 2 week stay and can honestly say we loved every minute of our holiday. Joanna is the perfect host – so welcoming, helpful, friendly and generous with her time, advice, local knowledge and delicious home made Greek treats. I knew she was lovely from the moment she emailed me with directions to the villa and prompt answers to all my questions.
Villa Evanthia is absolutely spotless with air conditioning in all rooms, a safe in every bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen including a toaster, coffee machine, juicer, mini food processor & spices etc, bath & pool towels are provided, cleaning service included, washing machine with detergent, an incredible outdoor BBQ with charcoal provided. The garden area is also beautiful and very private. Joanna has thought of everything you would need for a stress-free holiday.
Joanna also gave us some excellent advice about local attractions. We visited Rethymno (local market on Thursday) and were given tips for the best parking spots. We also visited the picturesque village of Magarites where local potters sell their exquisite handmade pottery – lunch at Mantalos Taverna which was another amazing recommendation by Joanna. The nearest beaches are in Bali (10-15 minutes drive). Bali has 4 beaches next to each other and they all have different vibes. Yet again, Joanna gave us tips on which were the best beaches, when to go and places to eat.
We went to Panorama Restaurant at the port of Bali (third beach along) where they have Greek music and dancing on Monday and Friday evenings (another one of Joanna’s recommendations). Booking a table is essential as it gets very busy (Joanna gladly did this for us) and this was definitely the best meal we had in Crete. The views of the beach and port are also truly stunning from this restaurant - would highly recommend.
Lastly, a visit to The Paraschakis Family Olive Oil Factory is also a must. This is Joanna’s family run business and we were given a fantastic and knowledgeable tour of how olive oil was produced from days of old to modern practices. At the end of the tour we were given bread to dip into their delicious olive oil, with fruit and a shot of Greek Raki too. It’s a popular tour and we were genuinely fascinated to learn how every part of the olive tree is used (leaves, olive stones, wood) with zero waste.
We can’t wait for our return visit.
On the edge of Melidoni, Villa Evanthia is a quiet, beautiful place to relax in the Cretan sun. Spacious and well equipped, if you want a total break, this is the place for you!
Joanna was a generous and thoughtful host, giving us useful local information, and providing a welcoming food pack to start our holiday.
The local village is a 2 minute walk and has a couple of small shops and a handful of taverna's.
We definitely needed a car - although the villa was so lovely we didn't want to go out much!
