Denali Bluffs Hotel
Reviewed 15 September 2017

First off, this hotel sits on the side of a pretty steep hill. There was a strong sewage smell outside the main building that was pretty distasteful. The rooms are very small, although the showers are a decent size. I was a single and couldn't imagine having two people trying to walk around the room at the same time. I did sleep well, and I liked the down comforter. There is a hotel shuttle to take you down the hill and back up again, although it is a pretty easy walk down to the restaurant and shopping area. I would probably look for a different hotel, but there aren't a lot of choices in the area.

Dear Diane0405, thanks for staying with us - I do hope that you mentioned the odor to our front desk. We do have a waste water plant near by and sometimes if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction it does affect our fresh clean air. I am glad that you enjoyed the easy walk downtown as well, and I'm glad you slept well underneath our cozy comforter! Dee Dee

Denali Bluffs is located up in the hills overlooking Denali National Park. The rooms have high beamed ceilings and are very clean and comfortable. The food at the restaurant is excellent and the shuttle service to several places, including "downtown Denali" with quirky gift shops, is available on a regular basis. Very close to the entrance to the park. The front desk has very helpful people to answer any questions you might have.

We were fortunate to have a third floor king room in the newest building just completed. Spacious, comfortable room with great views from our balcony of the mountain range at Denali Park entrance. Excellent, reliable, on time shuttle service to park (Wilderness Access Center, Visitor Center) and to "downtown" and rail depot. Mostly helpful concierge staff. Restaurant was good, not great, and a little pricey but extremely convenient with courteous, friendly servers.

Room Tip: Request rooms in new buildings for best comfort/value. Higher floor have best views.

A fair stay, but restaurant and coffee shop are pricey. Rooms are built as separate clusters of cabins into the side of the mountain, so one needs to be prepared to climb a couple of flights of stairs or equivalent uphill walking to get from the lower rooms to the lobby or restaurant. Balcony was small, but ok for two people to sit and look out to the park, but the view from the lower rooms is obscured by the trees. Good shuttle service to town, train, visitor center, and park.

Room Tip: Get as high on the mountain as you can.

Dear Christopher S, thanks for staying with us - you are correct, we are lucky enough to be located on the side of a mountain - our views are spectacular but with beautiful views also come some steps and incline. Thanks for complimenting our shuttle service as well! Dee Dee

I wish we had a king bed but everything else was wonderful. We stayed in one of the new river view units that were just built in the summer 2017; they were lovely. Everything was modern and working well. I do wish there were a few more hangers, but we never did ask for more. They used Beekman 1802 soaps which smelled wonderful. Our room had a lovely view although it was over the highway, but it's Alaska so the road traffic was not too bad. The staff had our key on arrival by the Alaska railroad so we didn't even have to stop by the front desk to check in. They also delivered our luggage to our room and picked it up the day we left. You do have to walk up and down short trails to get to and from your room, but this was not an issue for us. There were a few golf carts that we saw delivering guests and their luggage to their room if the walk was a problem. Shuttle service was timely and we enjoyed the little seasonal Denali town.

Room Tip: Get a riverview room, the walk is longer but it will have a better view and newer rooms

Dear Julie R, thanks so much for the wonderful review. Thanks for complimenting our new rooms, right down to our soaps! The views are spectacular and with the sliding door closed the road traffic is minimal - but I encourage all our guests to open the door to hear the river! Thanks for mentioning the delivery of your keys to the rail depot - we want to make sure that you feel taken care of from the time you step foot into Denali until the time you depart and it seems that we succeeded in doing that! Come back soon! Dee Dee
