Just back from a 10 day last minute holiday with a baby. Resort is set up for kids with creche and kids club, soft play etc. and so relaxing for parents. Pools are nice (cold at this time of year) and sea and beach fine with lovely views.
Rooms are clean and well furnished - we upgraded into a two room appartment half way through via the Thompson rep which was easy and good value. Booked cot and high chair through Thompson too - very expensive if done through hotel.
Bar food was poor - expensive and not very exciting - better to go elsewhere in the village.
Walk into Alykes for a nice coffee (not greek) in the illy cafe.

Nothing is too much trouble for these people, we were made to feel comfortable from the moment we arrived, pools clean and tidy, rooms spotless, even when it rained like youve never seen before the hotel staff broke out the sun parasols so we could get back to our apartment,
++ point, people are not allowed to get up at 5am and reserve sun loungers, if you do towels are taken away and put at reception, village is two min walk and lined with tavernas and small bars, all excellent for food and drinks, horse drawn carriages are on hand to take you if you want a ride for a few euros, best find was walk down the beach and pop in The Mill Bar

On arrival at Alykanas Village Hotel we instantly knew we'd made the right choice of a last minute break. Gloria and her staff in reception very helpful. Reps kind and informative.
Our room, as requested on a high floor, exceeded our expectations for Greece. Lovely balcony overlooking pool, spacious room, being a four bedded studio and the kitchen, to our surprise, had a microwave, kettle, toaster and two ringed electric cooker and extracter fan. We also had a bath/shower in an adequate bathroom.

The pool was very cold so I didn't get my usual swims, but the sea was still quite warm so I managed a few day's dips. The sea was crystal clear and very very shallow for a long way out. We used the free sunbeds on the Neraida Restaurant Beach, and ate and drank there. It was a typically greek tavern, good value food and frequented by greeks and ex british pats.

The Village was very very quiet, almost deserted, but it was late in the season. All the restaurants we ate in were fine, and all had special offer main meals, ranging from 4.50 to 4.95 euros.

The local tractor/train to Vertzgio was well worth the 12 euros. A quaint museum where you were allowed to touch items, and it had all been put together by the owner Spiros, who was a character himself, also being the driver of the train, and the owner of the Kakia Rahi taverna.

Unfortunately the good weather we arrived to on the 11th only stayed until the Friday night when we had a terrific storm, torrential rain, thunder and lightening, which lasted well over 24 hours. In fact it caused localised flooding, cutting short our Island Tour. However, even in the pouring rain we could see the charm of Makrialos Beach and St Nicholas Beach, so unspoilt. However, our clear calm sea had become yukky and merky, with quite a surf. As we left on Tuesday, the weather was sunny again!!!!

The dogs at the hotel did not bother us, in fact, they always had wagging tails and seemed very friendly. A few of the children staying seemed to adopt them for the week! One especially seemed to like a dip in the sea.

I hope to go back to this hotel next year, taking my husband and part of our family, providing the price is right, as it has to be in school holidays.

Did not like the hard mattress on the bed, thought it was ok for my friend. Obviously a personal choice!!!

Room Tip: High floor for good views, but there is no lift.

iv just returned from a week at the alykanas village, the hotel is fab for children the kids club is brill, they have a nice big park for children an a indoor soft play bit (witch was good for wen it rained) the pools are really good, as i have a 2 an a half year old an the water was really shallow so he could get in an out wiv out me worrying... its fantastic location right on the beach .... the food at the snack bar is really good i eat there a few times they do a good selection an i wouldnt say it was over priced either... the only let down 2 the hotel is the stray dogs, dont get me wrong they wer harmless but u just dont want 2 see them wen ur on holiday they wer jus a pain... they wer a pack of about 8, drinking out of the pool an if u had any food lying about they would pinch it...
the resort its self is poor, very very small, all of 3 supermarkets an a couple of shops an bars.

Just spent last week here. The best part is the children clubs, the staff are fantastic and kids really enjoy {My 5 year old}. The place itself is very rural so you do feel very limited, a few restraunts and bars but that's about it. If the weather is good and you just want a quiet holiday with childrens club then this is ideal. Any Glasgow travellers book your extra night in advance on the web through Thomson web site as the maximum cost is about £18 whereas the hotel charge 50 Euro !!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building if anyone has mobility issues, as that is the only lift access, all other apartments is all stairs, so if you have a pram it can become quite difficult.
