waking up with view on sea side,
accomadations perfect
and what about having a glass of wine on the terrasse under fullmoon light
And the best food of the city at Captain's house restaurant
Tank you, Melinda & Theo, and all the kids

“A Stunning View from a Gorgeous Property”
Reviewed 13 February 2014 for a stay in September 2013

We have stayed at two of the three Grand View apartments and each has been an exceptional experience. Grand View Afrodite is a two bedroom property with an astounding view of the western half of Lesvos Island and the Molyvos harbor from its gracious terrace and living room/dining area. The two bedrooms are spacious and decorated in an elegant and subtle style. The two baths are beautifully designed, one with a huge bathtub and the other a large shower. The kitchen is fully equipped and restaurants abound just a short walk down to the harbour or into the heart of town. The one bedroom apartment, Grand View Rhea, is ideal for a couple or a single with equally lovely furnishings and style. A roomy terrace also has a lovely view of the island and harbor. Both properties have washer & dryer and all the amenities you might need. The Grand View apartments have all the touches of an elegant contemporary rental. Our stays have been delightful and we plan to return regularly.

“Lovely house, beautiful town, relaxed stay”
Reviewed 16 August 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We were the first to stay in this beautiful new house, pleasing decor and fittings all good quality. We had a great 2 weeks, and would gladly come again. There were one or two teething problems, but Melinda (owner) was more than helpful in quickly sorting things. The house is nicely situated - a quiet location, views over the sea, but a short walk to either the main town, or down to the restaurants around the harbour (including Melinda and Theo's "Captain's Table").
Molyvos is an attractive little town; although there's lots of tourist activity, it's done discretely. Many mornings we walked up to the Platanos square and had a quiet coffee and croissant in the shade of the big plane trees. Lots of restaurants, of course. For swimming, we took a short drive down to the hotel at the far end of the beach; they were very happy to have non guests share their pool, beach access and showers, as long as we patronised their bar. With only limited beach access, Molyvos is not ideal for young children. And from what we saw, there may not be a lot for the 18-30 group to do; there's some kind of dance club on the beach, but that may be all. Being well past 18-30, we didn't investigate.
There's bits of history lying around in Molyvos, but apart from the castle, these are not heavily promoted, so keep your eyes open. There are some excavations of ancient sites (from 3rd C BC. The best is just 200m west of Grand View). There are many Turkish water fountains in the streets. And after some searching, we found the Kramniki Kralli Mansion, and were given a personal tour of the murals.
There are some walking/cycling trails leading out the back of the town. The signing is a bit patchy, but they kind of work, and offer 6-10K or longer journeys. Would have been better if the tourist office had been open (shut in May!), and I could have got a map.
But there's not enough in Molyvos to occupy 2 weeks (unless you really do just want to swim, eat and shop), so I wouldn't have wanted to do this without the hire car. Car parking at Grand View is simply on the roadside; convenient, but takes a little care to park tidily to avoid blocking the narrow road. We took our TomTom (as well as maps), and found our way around quite easily. One disappointment was that quite a few places hadn't yet opened in May - some of the monasteries, even the much-promoted petrified forest. Nevertheless, in some of the places that were open, we were privileged to be the sole visitors, so that's not a bad trade off. We would have liked a boat trip to Turkey, but it involves a long coach ride to and from Mitilini, so we didn't bother.

Travel from London involves two flights, via Athens, making for a tiring day. Apparently Ryan Air may start doing direct flights. But could we overcome our aversion to Ryan Air to take advantage of this?

“aegean perfection”
Reviewed 12 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We stayed at Grand View Rhea in early June. We come to Lesvos every year and have sampled many of its villages and accommodations. Grand View Rhea is a dream come true. From two balconies we enjoyed one of the most beautiful views on the aegean. The house itself, newly built, is modelled on typical Lesvos' homes of times gone bye. Exquisitely decorated, it is epuipped with all possible amenities. The perfect blend of well organized practicality combined with such esthetic delights was a first for us in our multiple mediterranean wanderings.
