Firstly, the location is incredible. An easy 2 hour train ride from Porto will have you in Peso de Ragua, and a 20 minute taxi ride will have you at this amazing property set in the hills with views to die for. The restaurant is perfectly fine. I found the dinner menu a little bit limited and unfortunately the waiters forgot the wine (despite two polite reminders) but the breakfasts were very good.
The rooms were lovely (we were in one of the older rooms in the main building) and while having the shower in the room (no privacy at all) wasn't expected, it didn't cause a problem for a couple on holiday.
The staff were all friendly and helpful to the extend they understood English and my very poor attempts at Portugese!
But, the one thing holding this hotel back in my opinion, in fact the only real negative, was the bed. It wasn't just uncomfortable, it was absolutely awful. The worst bed I've ever slept in. At one point I considered sleeping in the bathtub before resolving to lay all the pillows on the mattress and sleep on that.
I am not a fussy sleeper at all, but I can't properly describe how bad this bed was, except that it hurt to lie on. Maybe this is a feature that has been fixed in the newer rooms (I hope so).
But aside from problems with the bed this is a fantastic hotel and well worth visiting!
