The hotel is beautiful, with great views, offers nice breakfast with good variety, but the restaurant experience wasn't a nice one despite the very friendly staff; in fact the staff was particularly amateurish.
The outdoor swimming pool is quite small and not what was suppose to be in a so-called 5 stars hotel.
An experience to not repeat, unless the hotel is demoted to 3/4 stars.

In Fact breathtaking of the Douro Valley , location incredible , rooms very modern, lie in bed and just look at the vista !!Lovely building , however not enough umbrellas ( shade) to sit under as very hot . Swimming pool small but a necessity to cool off . Dinner expensive and chefs recommendations best value for money . Breakfast superb . Worth a visit simply stunning !!

The hotel is beatifull, great views and a very nice pool. Staff is very polite and helpfull, however you can notice that they lack some experience. Everything was clean. The breakfast is also very good with fresh food and a good variety. It is very well located, about 30 mins from Peso da Regua. I will definitely recommend it and will surely be back.

If you want a true 5 star experience you won´t get it in Douro Scala, however considering the price paid (~70€ / night), I believe it is an excelent price/quality ratio experience. It´s like a good 4 star hotel.

Room tip: Try to get a room in the top floor. The view is better from here.

It is rare that I have no complaints about a hotel. This hotel is professional, welcoming and stunning. The rooms and room view is second to none, the pool area is chic and simple, the dining experience is pretty good and the staff are welcoming and friendly. A resounding result and would recommend to anyone.

Ps. If booking from Booking.com, the pictures do not do it justice. The rooms and views are SPECTACULAR.

Have just returned from this lovely part of the world. The agua douro scala is the perfect spot for getting away from it all. It is ideal for exploring the douro valley but not for the faint hearted. The drive there is tortuous with narrow roads and a sheer drop on one side. However, once there it is a gem. We had a room in the old part of the building that was truly delightful. The views just spectacular over the valley with a peek of the river. The only downside was lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room as a coffee first thing in the morning overlooking the valley would be perfect. The staff seem stand offish but that could be our lack of Portuguese and I would recommend if visiting you learn just a little of the language if only to be polite. We had days out in regua, mesao frio and lamoga and thoroughly enjoyed our time. We also took a stroll before dinner a couple of times and took in the church at cidadelhe which is stunning. The breakfast was plentiful and dinner whilst expensive and a little limited made a perfect end to the day. If you are in the area give this place a go. You won't be disappointed
