The images speak for themselves. Even better just spend a few days in this fantastic beach.
It is internationally recognized. Coated by the finest white sand, the Praia Formosa is paradisiacal.
I leave some advice for those who visit the island in August. Enjoy the beach in the mornings especially if they have children. Of late, especially the end-of-week, will many people.

I enjoyed the beauty of this beautiful praia either on the ocean coast or high above on the south facing hillside .The old fort has an interesting history and I was surprised to see a substantial banana plantation close to the beach . In June the beaches have only a few sun worshippers , As one drops off to sleep in the rental home the soothing sound of beach waves lulls one to enjoy a night's rest .

Clean fine sand with crystal waters. Waves can be high. Nice little snack bar overlooking the beach. Showers and toilets on the beach.

Beautiful crystal clear water. Sand is a mix of black tan and pink sand.....depending on the tides. Some years the beach is expansive and others it is smaller...again all defendant on the tides and wind direction. Great for surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, and of course swimming BUT not all on the same day......the wind dictates! Gorgeous cliffs flank the beach......pristine raw beauty.

I don't know how many people there are during high season, but in May it was absolutely beautiful and empty. Just imagine two kilometers of wide sandy ocean beach with no footstep on it flat, licked up by the water surface. The waves were OK to swim, the sun was great to get dry after... Two restaurants are available upstairs, both with an astonishing view on the ocean.
