Excellent in every way

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Oct 2024via mobile
Everything was perfect: the location , buildings ,facilities, service . Our suite was beautifully designed and situated with a lovely view of the countryside and of the pool. The pools and spa facilities were lovely and peaceful. Breakfast was delicious and available at a time to suit. The staff were most helpful. We have no hesitation in recommending Herdade do Amarelo and look forward to returning in the future.

Herdade do Amarelo is an amazing place, we had the most wonderful days there. Sérgio and all the staff is incredible, very friendly and helpful. We definitely recommend the full body massage and the experience of the suspended jacuzzi. The breakfast is very good, we definitely recommend staying in Herdade do Amarelo.

We were hesitant to choose Herdade do Amarelo because the price was a bit steep for local standards (we're both Portuguese), but thank God we did! It was an amazing experience in incredible surroundings. The kindness in which we were welcomed continued throughout our two-day stay. In the first morning I wasn't feeling too good and my partner went to have breakfast by himself. I could not believe when I saw him return with a beautiful spread of everything we had ordered the night before. He had mentioned I wasn't feeling great and they took time and care to ensure I wouldn't go hungry.

Besides attentive staff and wonderful views, Herdade do Amarelo has great food (the included breakfast is one of the best I have seen in Portugal) and a super comfortable bed! We chose the suite with the outdoor Jacuzzi and it was worth every penny. I was sorry not to have tried their spa, but I had to had an excuse to come back!

Thank you so much for two incredible days!

Room tip: I think the outdoor Jacuzzi suite is really worth it!

This is a wonderful place. You would have little idea making the turn off the road towards Amarelo, only a few hundred meters away, that it is such a tranquil sanctuary.

Beautifully designed in every way, wonderful pair of swimming pools, lovely landscaping, lots of quiet spots amid the trees and flowers to hang out on beds.

It is run by a lovely very kind and friendly couple, Carmen and Filippe. They really care about the place, looking after it with great love.
They are even considerate of the frogs who live around the spa pool, by avoiding chlorination that can harm the frogs. This means that the water may be a little green, which can upset some superficial urban types who expect sterility at the expense of the natural world. Good for Carmen and Filippe for standing up for nature.

We stayed in Suite Barragen, a trio of rooms further down the hill facing a stunningly beautiful wooded gorge. Magical. If you do stay in one of those rooms, be aware that there is a jacuzzi tub in the floor at themed of the end facing the view - fine in the daytime, possible dangerous at night, so ask for the cover for the tub for safety reasons.

There are also a couple of fantastic beaches very close by to the south : Praia do Almograve, and a short walk over the cliffs to the north, even more private : Praia do Brejo Largo.

This place is absolutely amazing. It by far exceeded my expectations, and is 10 times more special than advertised and marketed. This is definitely one of Portugal's hidden gems, and I would highly recommend. The service was exceptional.. Sergio and the housekeeping team are super special, very hospitable, and simply beyond words. Very special team of people. The surroundings are very relaxed, clean, bright and absolutely beautiful. The rooms are so outstanding, and have been well thought out. My room was one of Zen suites and it was just delightful. The chill out spaces are phenomenal, and even when the place is fully occupied, it still feels tranquil. It was also nice to see a mix of people including couples, and families of all ages.
I certainly will be returning, and really cannot wait to go back. I would rate this place 11 out of 10. If you are considering going to Herdade Do Amarelo, do not hesitate, do it!! You will not be disappointed. Just be sure to research before hand so you know what is included in the service and price you pay. For me there were no surprises as I took the time to read all about the facilities, and what is included in the prices and the services available, and again it was everything I could of wished for and more. It was well worth the price.
Thank you team Amarelo for making my stay special and for the beautiful memories I made. You are all diamonds. BJs

Room tip: You will be in for a real treat and pleasant surprise. Just ensure you know what is included in the price and services available beforehand

The incredible outdoor space at this herdade and spa far exceeded our expectations. The large hill/mountain landscape, coupled with the facility’s amazing gardens, made this a place we will always remember.
The included breakfast was a nice bonus. Served on a patio overlooking the hills and blue tiled pools, guests are offered a nice array of choices. When we arrived in the morning, the staff knew who we were without asking and appeared with the food (ordered the night before) soon after we sat down every day. They also cleaned our room at that time — like magic. It was a nice touch.
The pools are clean and a great hang out if you want to do that, rather than head to the many gorgeous beaches within a reasonable drive. The jacuzzi is part of the spa, so there was a 25 euro fee for use. We did that and felt it was worth it.
The location is perfect. It is remote enough but only 9 kilometers to the heart of Vila Nova de Milfontes, a lovely resort/beach town south of Lisbon and north of the Algarve. The town’s restaurants were both good and abundant. In the evening, we could hear the sound of cowbells — in the morning the sounds of cuckoos and the bray of the resident donkey.
Then why did I give this 4 stars rather than 5? Our outdoor spa room was fine but a bit worn and not the luxurious experience we were hoping for. There were nice robes but no bath or skin products provided at all—none for the tub and only affixed bottles of bath gel next to the tub and sink. Also, we were seeking quiet privacy but the patio divider separating us from the room next door was open at the top and we heard multiple loud phone conversations, as our neighbors blared music and sang along as they splashed in their hot tub.
If I could, I’d give the outdoor area a 6 and the room a 3.5. We definitely would return, but if we do, we’ll know to bring our own shampoo and lotion.
