Akerblads Hotell & Gastgiveri
Reviewed 7 August 2011

We stayed at Åkerblads in the beginning of August and unfortunately we were both highly disappointed. We stayed in s mini suite and it was seriously expensive at 1995 SEK. The room was small, years out dated, no ventilation (We both felt hangover the morning after based on bad air quality). They highlighted the fact the room had a jacuzzi, but its is a pretty sorry excuse for one. The breakfast was low on selection and really felt like a 3 star offering.

They need to shape up!

We were looking forward to our two night stay in a "mini suite", but were disappointed when we found out how small the room was - we wonder how small a standard double bedroom would be!. There was not enough room to open up our suit cases. The Hastens bed was very comfortable. The room had a balcony with views of Lake Siljan which was lovely. Unfortunately the Hotel has no air-conditioning so we had to open all windows & the balcony door to get some relief from the high temperature & humidity inside the small room. At sunset the windows had to be shut because of insects & mosquitoes which of course made the room unbearable hot. The shower was old fashioned with a plastic curtain & old fashioned manual taps. The toilet was so small that there was hardly enough room to stand. The Hotel certainly has atmosphere but this doesn't help you to sleep at night. We ate in the restaurant the first night for dinner expecting a wonderful experience given its good reviews. The main course was presented on plates with silver covers - all very nice. Unfortunately the quantity of food did not match our expectations of a proper adult meal. We had very small portions with very high prices but it tasted OK. The Hotel promotes the use of local produce in its advertising but there was insufficient of it on the plate to even get a taste. Breakfast was only equal to a three star hotel, not a four star Hotel. All the staff were very pleasant even when you met them coming & going from the car park. The Hotel experience was not matched by the beauty of Lake Siljan's country side.

We had to notice the hotel that we would arrive late, and from that point on we experienced the exceptionally friendly attitude of the staff at Akerblads. We stayed in a "mini suite with jacuzzi", and had a wonderful week. Top class room(s), nicely decorated, very comfortable Hastens bed. In addition our room had a large terrace with a nice view of the garden. The hotel has wireless Internet in every room, but it tended to be a little unreliable. It worked very well when it worked, though. We had dinner at the hotel twice, and had the same top service experience there. The kitchen is renowned in Sweden, and lived up to it!

We stayed at Akerblads for two nights at the recommendation of a 5-star hotel interior decorator we met in Stockholm. This is an old property that has been continually renovated over time. It is run by the 25th or so generation of ownership. We were there in late September. Except for a convention staying there for a couple of days, there was hardly anyone there so the price was right.

The rural location on a hillside in Tallberg is gorgeous. Tallberg consists basically of several similar older hotels, all done in Falun Red paint, with views of Lake Siljan. The property (several centuries old) consists of a main hotel and several outbuildings that also contain rooms. We stayed in one of the outbuildings. The room was small but well appointed with what you would expect in a modern hotel. While delightful and appropriate, it was not luxurious.

The hotel has an indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi. We didn't use them. The price included a Swedish buffet breakfast, which I would rate as A+, in a beautiful dining room. We ate in the restaurant both nights, ala carte as opposed to a fixed price meal. The food I rate as A or A+.

While there is no nightlife, this is an excellent place to relax or get to know a romantic partner. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Sviterna är något större och har balkong vilket nog på sommaren är härligt att ha.
