Marcos is one of my favourite spots in Durban. I'm not a fan of the atmosphere (just not my thing) but the food makes anything worth it.

Franks food comes from the same kitchen but in the more relaxed bar style setting of booths and a great bar, adjacent to Marcos.

As usual, my dining parter tried the burger (Franks Burger) and I tried the shrimp risotto (lemon, chilli). The food may be a bit pricey for some but the portions are so generous and the quality so good, that not a cent is wasted. Amazing quality and such well balanced flavours.

Can we have a moment for the onion rings (never expected to love onion rings, but Franks you did it!)

The Rose by the glass was great, they have a good selection of craft beers. Service was quick, but we didn't feel at all rushed. The decor is very upper class pub, but they have a flat screen showing the current sports.

Definitely my second favourite spot!

I was surprised to see musselcracker on the specials menu given that this is a vulnerable fish species (Red-listed on the South African Seafood Institute consumer guide) and given that the restaurant claims to be conscious of what it offers on its menu and to adhere to Slow Food principles. Our server unconvincingly tried to explain commercial fishing practices but there is really no excuse for this. He was also unable to tell us if it was black or white musselcracker - it is illegal to sell white musselcracker.
So we didn't order the fish. Risotto was stodgy, fillet was good, service was good despite not being able to explain questions surrounding the menu, atmosphere was loud and not suitable for intimate conversation; the table layout is cramped inside. We were glad to have tried the restaurant but will not be going back.

Keep going back to this popular restaurant because of its consistency in all areas. Staff are all eager to please & knowledgeable and the food is really great. I return again and again for the deboned peri peri chicken which for me, is the best in Durban, but plenty else on the menu is equally fantastic.

We experienced great service on two occasions from the same waiter. He was friendly and attentive.

The menu is long, with a wide variety of choices, with sandwiches and lunch dishes alongside the regular dining options. The complimentary focaccia on arrival is delicious!

We are a special of chicken livers which were perfectly cooked. The kingklip was moist, and the side salad and crunchy chips delicious.

You can sit inside in air conditioning, or outside looking on to the car park.

You can see why this restaurant is popular with the Mt Edgecombe locals. Good food so close to home!
