Best breakfast of this entire trip (potato rosti with poached egg and trout) and the view of the horses and the mountains are beyond pretty. Everything was excellent.

Original we had booked for 2 nights at the Stanford Valley Guest Farm, unfortunately we could only stay for 1 night due to work commitments!
Arrived on the Sat afternoon and had lunch at the Manor House Restaurant.
Setting was perfect and serene.
Settled for the burgers as recommended by Elsabe, they were good! Wine selection was great.
What a great collection of art!
Breakfast on the patio the following morning was a definite.
Do yourself a favour and book for lunch or dinner or just even better book a weekend @ the Guest Farm!

Thank you for this feedback - and recommendation! Was wonderful to meet and glad you could enjoy the art while the burgers 'did the trick' before the big night out - not to mention the breakfast after :-) Until a next time, we hope!

My wife and I were guests for an 80th birthday party celebration. Drinks were served in a lovely setting in the garden, followed by lunch in the dining room, looking out to the mountains. The menu was very varied and all of us thought that both the service and food, as well as the wines, were excellent. Many of the guests stayed at the guest farm and all seemed to be impressed. It was a very happy event. Highly recommended. TonyC Hilton

We loved the Manor House kitchen on our first visit, so booked again when friends accompanied us to Stanford. We were all staying at the guest lodge, so we didn't have to drive home. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly and efficient, and the setting is lovely. After a rather hefty R50 corkage for our two bottles of wine bought at Raka, the next door wine estate, we settled down to enjoy ourselves. Three of us ordered the pork belly; one of us the spinach and feta gnocchi. The gnocchi were like airy little pillows and were thoroughly enjoyed. As for the pork : the teriyaki sauce was delicious, the crackling was crispy, the mash was smooth and the pork was inedible. Completely inedible - stringy, chewy, and it was all I could do to force myself to swallow it. My husband left all his meat on the plate - he just couldn't get it down. If the chef hadn't had enough time to slow cook the pork until it was tender, we should have been warned to choose another dish. As it was, we walked out feeling cheated. What a pity, because the Lodge itself is lovely.

Dear Ethnee

we appreciate all the positive comments despite having been let down - but above all, appreciate the reminder that after a year of same same recipe same chef same supplier, a favorite dish on the menu can still become a 'culprit' if do not double check on it! so: our sincerest apologies, and we can only hope that you will return to our valley again for a repeat of your first experience at Manor House.. with warm regards
