What more can we say. Just got back from our third visit and already booked our fourth. Simply perfect!
Villa Marina is everything the pictures promise you and a whole lot more. In the house and on the terrace there are no signs of wear and tear, not a speck of dust, and you get the feeling you're the first guests to stay there because it all looks so new. The accommodation is comfortable though with plenty of room and everything you need (e.g. fridge, kettle, coffee etc). The bathroom is large with a sensibly designed walk-in shower that is deep enough to prevent the usual partial flooding of the bathroom floor. There is plenty of cupboard space with ample clothes hangers, the air-conditioning is very efficient, and, and, and, - in fact it is just easier to say that everything in the house is A1.
It is, however, the terrace/pool/view combination that takes your breath away - photos just can't do it justice. Mountains, sea, sky, olive trees, village, infinity pool, beautiful terrace, comfortable loungers etc. - what more could you want?
If you can manage to drag yourself away though, the villa is in a great position for trips out (Agios Nikolaos, Spinalonga, the Amazonas animal sanctuary and many more). It is not far to Milatos Beach where there are about 10 tavernas but we found the taverna in Milatos village itself and the one on the nearby mountain road in Kounali to be extra special with great, genuinely Cretian food.
Last but not least, Maureen and and Andrew are the perfect hosts. They are very good at what they do and everything works like clockwork - and it's true, the breakfasts really are amazing!
The Villa Marina was worth every penny, and as our fourteen year old daughter put it: "The coolest place we've ever stayed in"!
This villa is in the most superb setting overlooking a very quite village with extensive views towards the coast. Andrew & Maureen have very high standards of service, nothing is too much trouble at the same time they go out of their way to give you total privacy and so when you are there you feel as if you are the only people around.
Although Milatos is a small village, just a short drive from the Villa is a great selection of local tavernas' all on the seafront with great views of the sunset - not commercial just very good local cooking. The villa is in an excellent central position to explore this part of Crete. It is a days outing to Spinalonga, Agios Nikolaos, Heraklion, Knossos, Lasithi Plateau and many more places. There is also a wealth of Minoan history in the area with a number of places to visit.
We have recently returned from our 4th visit and would not hesitate to highly recommend anyone wishing to visit there.
A delightful location, though the approach is not for the faint hearted! Our hosts were charming and helpful and the accommodation well equipped and very clean. Views amazing and lots to see and do in this area. We met such friendly people too. Temperatures cooling at pthis time of year and inclined to be windy sometimes with big seas. Enjoyable break which we recommend.
