We booked two nights at the end of October to start our honeymoon and could not have been more disappointed.

When we checked in we were shown to a twin, not a double room. When we explained it was our honeymoon we were told that the beds would not be able to be made into a double until the following day (despite it only being around 5pm). It was only when we said we would look for another hotel that a double room could be found.

The most upsetting part of our stay however was the attitude of the staff. Not even a simple 'congratulations'! The staff throughout our visit were so unfriendly and their negativity was really upsetting during what was meant to be a happy stay.

The new double room smelt badly of drains and had dogs barking throughout the night every time the church bells sounded. Two fellow guests left the hotel early for that reason. We did not complain on-site as we had only one night left and were trying to be positive but we did follow-up with a private complaint by email almost one month ago to give the owners a right to reply.

We never received a reply...

Genuinely the worst service we have ever received in Italy, avoid!

We wanted to visit the Langhe Wine Region of Piemonte for 5 days and chose to stay at Albergo Ristorante Giardino Da Felicin for 4 nights! We booked one of their deluxe suits/apartments in their Palazzo Boeri Section of the hotel, located in the old town of Monforte with amazing view of the Langhe Hills and the Alps. (you can see my pictures) There is also a big gorgeous patio to sit outside with nice seating to enjoy a bottle of beautiful Barolo and enjoy the stunning views. There is also a beautiful infinity swimming pool with same stunning views. Our deluxe suite/apartment had a very comfortable King bed, with a kitchenette and big bathroom and nice sitting area with table. We also had a balcony overlooking the Church and old town. The hotel is pristine clean. The hotel staff also just wonderful. We drove from Switzerland and we also had parking right at the apartments. The internet was also great and free. We also ate at their beautiful restaurant a couple of nights and to celebrate my birthday. The main hotel and restaurant are located down the hill, its a little steep so a good trek back up. But you can always drive your car down and park near the main hotel. But it was good exercise to walk back up after a big meal. The food was amazing and the service great & so friendly by head waiter Andrea who speaks English wonderfully. We even spoke with the wonderful Chef & owner Nino Rocca and he chose a wonderful full course Piemontese surprise meal for us. He is very charming and personable and comes out to greet and speak with you about his wonderful food and menu. His English is also just superb! It's a beautiful dining area and atmosphere also with a superb wine List. If you are visiting the Langhe Wine Region, a stay at the Giardino De Felicin is great. Monforte D'Alba is a great beautiful location and town and close to Barolo, La Morra, Serralunga, Barbaresco, etc. We will definitely go back again.

Room Tip: The deluxe apartment suites are great and lots of room

We stayed at Da Felicin for 7 or 8 nights at the end of July and would return in a heartbeat if we could. As a family run hotel and restaurant it is charming and welcoming and everyone was friendly and open. The location is perfect as well, just off the main square with many other cafes, bars and restaurants near by.

We stayed for a few nights in original building (with the restaurant) and another few nights in the newer building further up on the hill, in a large one bedroom with a small kitchen. The rooms in the original building are beautiful and we especially loved rolling out of bed to breakfast and only having a few steps to climb after dinner. That being said the room on the hill was exceptional as well with very high ceilings, wood plank floors and stunning views of Piedmont and the mountains to west and the walk is only five minutes or so.

While the hotel is great, the restaurant is magnificent. There is a true emphasis on local and fresh ingredients combined with creativity, skill and restraint. The service was warm and personal and yet very professional. And the wine list is fantastic and extensive. We ate in the garden courtyard outside and the dining room inside and both were excellent with the sun setting late into the evening casting golden hues in the dining room.

I highly recommend both the hotel and restaurant.

The location is beautiful. They have a nice pool overlooking the hills of Piedmont and you have a parking space. Very spacious rooms and friendly staff, and you are within walking distance of the small centre of Monforte d'Alba. You can easily walk around the area and check out the small wine shops and restaurants in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
