“Fantastic lobster”

It's an unassuming restaurant without much style BUT do go for the lobster. It's delicious, simply cooked with a tasty chilli, garlic butter, with Caribbean sides. Goes well with the chilled white wine. Friendly service and one of the few restaurants in Speyside that is open for dinner.

Friendly staff and owner. A limited menu with a local flavour but really good food to get a taste of Tobago. All reasonable priced and quickly prepared.

We had read a review stating Birdwatcher's do the best lobster on Tobago, and decided to give it a go, despite the somewhat uninspiring room and view to the car park.

We were blown away! This is not only the best lobster on the island, but the best lobster we have ever eaten.

Lobster is ordered by weight, and you get what you pay for. We decided to go for a 300 TT lobster each - which turned out to be huge. Juicy and succulent, with a fantastic taste. Beautifully presented, as you can see in the photo.

The cook is also the waiter, a charming guy who I wish I had taken a photo of. We loved it so much we came back the following day, and ordered more lobster. But a couple next to us had fish, and said it was equally good. All dishes come with generous helpings of salad, rice and vegetables.

Birwatcher's is situated in the sleepy village of Speyside, by the beach, a couple of houses from Jemma's Treehouse - but you can't properly see the beach from Birdwatchers. But who cares when the food is this good?

There is a very limited menu - you choose the main: chicken, fish, shrimp or lobster and then you'll also get samples of local dishes along with it - callaloo, macaroni pie, dasheen, and plantain. Nothing fancy, but the food is tasty and filling, and cheap. I think the price for a plate of food (except lobster) was about 80 TTD.
(I believe the restaurant's name derives from the clientele they serve, rather than offering a spot to spy birds.)

This place looks basic and the menu is limited, but don't let that put you off. The best macaroni cheese I have tasted! A charming place with a balanced meal for vegetarians, meat and fish eaters. Well done guys!
