On a hot day we have been there and enjoyed both: the cool air and the amazing things to see. This is a nice stop with a short tour through the cave and at the end you might try the "cave-beer"...
Wonderful welcome and visit this week. Excellent guided tour in English. Very helpful and kind people. Appreciated the warm clothing too.
It's a short drive from the Teufelshöhle in Pottenstein to this one. I found it more interesting, and the tour is more personal, although in German only. If you've taken the tour in the Teufelshöhle with the English explanations, you can pretty much figure this one out even if you don't understand the guide.
One thing to note is that to get tot he cave, you'll have to hike up a fairly steep hill for about 15 minutes. If you're up for that, then the visit will be worth it.
Thanks to Daniel and Eva and ESG erlangen, we could discover this gem of a trail :)
How we travelled : From Nuremberg/Erlangen travel to Forchheim by train (s-bahn) , take another Sbahn to Ebermannstadt (private : agilis). From the ebermannstadt hbf , take the bus just parked outside to Streitberg. It is a pretty short walk to the cave . The lady sitting outside the cave will help you with the cave tour. The tickets cost 4 euros if in a group of 15+ people. The camera cost 1 euro. It is a fairly interesting caves with stalactites and stalagmites some of which are 200,000 + years old. The tour guide was in German since most of us was german but i believe they will do the same in English as well.
There are further trails around the binghöhle and you could enjoy the beauty of the frankische schweiz. It was a great trip :) and amazing so as it was drizzling :-)
The inside of the cave is cool so take warm jackets :)
In Streitberg in der Fränkischen Schweiz. (Bing's Cave, named after the old gent who discovered it) This cavern is much more natural than the more well known " Teufelshöhle " Devils Hole or Devils cavern.
First you walk up a very steep set of log stairs on a tree covered hillside. Then you buy tickets from the lady who will sell you a soda and ice-cream from her cabin located at the top of the killer stairs. Then when she has enough customers, she will guide you through the cave. It is very tight in spots, but it is very much worth the killer climb and waiting for the tour.
When you are done you take a trail back towards the village, or like me you let your wife fool you into a walk on the highway back into town. They do not let you use a flash in this cave and they explain why you should not touch the rock formations. Wear a jacket since it is very cool inside.
