The Verandah Resort and Spa is excellent. The rooms are spacious but not luxurious. Large bed, good-sized bathroom and shower, large balcony area. Small kitchen area with fridge, sink, coffee machine, toaster. Iron and board supplied also. Take some ear-plugs as the noise of the crickets will keep you awake!

The food at all three restaurants is very good. I recommend eating at Nicole's at least once, it is worth the extra $25pp. Seafearer is also very good. The buffet food in Seabreeze was also better than expected. Breakfasts were especially good. The snack bar by Lovers Beach also served good food (burgers, chicken, fish & chips etc). Drinks at the beach bars and restaurants were also good. Bottled beer, decent wine, branded and local spirits etc. If lounging on the beaches or at the adult pool, you simply help yourself to a drink from a large ice-box. Easy as that.

The two beaches at the hotel are both very good. Lovers beach is bar far the busier of the two. The other beach was pretty much deserted when we stayed and we often had the beach all to ourselves. The adult pool is also very quiet. Both pools have plenty of loungers but not a lot of shade which is essential as the sun is very fierce in Antigua - be careful! The beach at Long Bay is incredible - please go and visit. It is a five-minute walk from the hotel.

Also be sure to go to Devil's Bridge (10 min walk). The waves are spectacular!

The staff at the hotel deserve a mention too. They were very helpful and friendly.

Few tips. Get money from the ATM at the airport as there are only a few ATM's and most are in St Jonh's. Money is dispensed in EC$. Make the most of the watersports that are on offer. The sea is wonderfully calm and crystal clear. Bottled water is very expensive at the hotel so either pick some up in the village. To be fair, the tap water is very good. Newspapers are also expensive but the internet is readily available.

Arriving at the Verandah you immediately get the feeling of quality, with a bright, airey & clean reception that was well staffed & efficient.
A courtesy electric bus took us & our luggage to our private villa style room. It was clean & spacious with, as you would expect from the resort with that name, a large beautifully positioned verandah. We were high above the lagoon with a wiew of the beach and the breakers in the distance crashing over the reef, which protects the lagoons and beaches from any rough seas.
We could see all sorts of things from there, from sailing boats to local fishermen, and from pelicans diving for fish to humming birds gathering nectar from the abundance of flowers.
This is a beatiful place, landscaped to perfection which makes it a pleasure to walk anywhere in the resort. The main restaurant is big and and welcoming, with a fabulous choice of food to choose from ther would never be a time when a fussy eater could not find something he liked.
The waiters are attentive and pleasent with araedy smile and conversation if you want it. They also don't stint on the drinks, constantly topping up your wine glass, it is difficult to leave sober. we were fully inclusive so I was pleased we did not have to keep asking.
The bars are fully stocked with many preminum brands so it is not like some fully inclusives which charge youextra for those.
I could go on but in short the resort description is accurate so you can book with the confidence that you are going to get what you pay for.
We would definately recommend this resort and are sure to go back someday.
It's difficult to say anything bad about the place, but if I had to I would say that there could be a little more shaded areas on the small beach.
That's it!

We visited the resort in Feb and had a wonderful time. The resort was fairly busy for a week with both US and UK on half term. Even then, we were able to get a good spot on the main beach and the kids all seemed to be having a good time. I noticed that the other beach near reception was still fairly quiet even when the hotel was fairly full.
In the following week, the resort was a lot quieter and both beaches were very peaceful.
Like previous reviewers, I don't want to repeat details, but I will say that the staff were fantastic, especially the food waiters, guest services ladies, water sports guys and the buggy drivers. We found them to be attentive and efficient and many of them were great to chat to. We felt like we were part of the family.
Food was great with plenty of choice. Check early in the day which restaurant is open and whether you need to book.
As someone else has said, this is the Caribbean, where the pace of life is a lot slower. Having said that, the resort staff and management were always swift to help and pleasant when doing so.

It's great to have Devils Bridge right next door to the resort and it only takes 5 or so minutes to walk to. The waves crashing onto the cliff face are mesmerising and difficult to tear yourself away from.

For those with a netbook or small laptop, the resort has 3 Wi-fi areas - near the main pool, near the adult pool and in the reception area. The resort has a pc you can use with a 15 min time limit, but it was regularly in use, so you may have a little wait.

We'll be going back next year and can't wait for January 2010 to come round.

OK - let's be honest. If you're here looking for a review of the hotel, you
should have a good idea what to expect! don't be surprised that the food isn't 5 star or that there are lots of families.

This place is fantastic for people with kids. So if you're single or on your honeymoon, you may not like having kids run around. Go somewhere else.

This resort is well kept and beautiful. The rooms are little cottages of two
rooms, and the walls are thin. But we didn't spend a lot of time in the room
during the day and for the most part we weren't bothered by our neighbours. the food was OK, we always found something to eat. we didn't have any experiences with the staff being rude. In fact, many went out of their way to be good to our son. I also found that if you greeted them nicely or even acknowledged them, they were delightful. It is the islands, so they don't move as quickly as we'd like, but you're on vacation so relax! Also, the activities don't always happen when they say they will (or at all....) Just let management know if you have any concerns and
they are generally on it ASAP. For example, the beach bar is supposed to be open until 10pm for food. We went at 3:30 and they told us that the kitchen was closed. we advised guest services and the kitchen miraculously opened (wink wink).

Overall, this is a great family place if you're happy to chill and relax on the
resort.

Apprenhensive of the idea of doing all inclusive, we were delighted by our stay at the Verandah. Lots of space, excellent cuisine (thanks to Mr Peters, F&B manager), friendly and attentive staff, excellent rooms. Not a lot more to say.
