“Lovely views and clean roomy villa”
Reviewed 18 March 2017 for a stay in February 2017

Villa Miradouro is a well presented roomy villa with views to the sea and the hills. Vanda and her team work tirelessly to ensure your stay is comfortable. We had hit and miss weather at the start and were told by locals that was unusual. Weather improved and we found lots of places to visit the villa has a large selection of brochures, leaflets to give ideas. We visited the spectacular gardens at Monte, went dolphin watching- magical. There are plenty of walks for all abilities and for the intrepid, paragliding just 2 minutes up the road from the villa.
We found some good places to eat visiting the beach restaurant bar at Ponta da Sol and eating local fish dishes at the Requinte do Rochao on route 222 about 10 minute drive from Arco da calheta. Try the Espetada!
A car is really required but the hire firm at the airport (Madeira car hire )are reasonably priced. Besides your adventure in Madeira would not be complete without driving through the fabulous scenery and numerous tunnels. The north side of Madeira is well worth visiting too. We will be back next year. Thank you Kas for the use of your villa we had a lovely chilled out relaxing holiday- just what the doctor ordered.

“Fantastic base to explore Madeira”
Reviewed 3 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

This villa is about 45 minutes drive from Funchal airport through a series of road tunnels. Following the instructions, we met a very helpful agent, Vanda, at a bar near the villa, who led us to the villa. The 'welcome pack' of essentials was great, including the wine! The villa consisted of a dining kitchen, lounge, family bathroom, twin bedroom and en-suite double bedroom all on one level. The free super fast WiFi was a real bonus as the TV only had BBC World & Sky International for English speakers amongst the many foreign satellite channels. The rooms were spacious and both bedrooms and living room afforded balconies with fantastic views over the bay of Calheta and surrounding hills and village. There is a lower floor apartment, which was occupied by another couple, but we hardly ever heard or saw them. They had use of the property's garage & we parked 50 yards away at the side of the road with no problem. The use of a car is essential here as it is very hilly and over a mile to the supermarket near Calheta beach. The man-made beach at Calheta was great with a bar/restaurant etc even free WiFi. We visited the beach on alternate days and explored the island on the others, which was easy to do as the island is not very big. We visited the capital Funchal, went to Porto Moniz in the North after riding on a fantastic cable car on the way at Achadas da Cruz and went Lavada walking to Rabacal and the 25 Fountains. For us, a week in Madeira was about enough, but the island is beautiful and the villa was perfect with all the amenities needed. It was like home from home and after a day out it was good to come back to, where we felt relaxed and comfortable. We used to sit on the balcony for an hour or two watching the sun go down below the horizon of the quiet Atlantic Ocean, sipping red wine or the local beer. Well recommended.

Thanks for taking the trouble to do a review. I am sure possible future guests will find it very helpful in making up their mind about where to book. By the way, the garage is actually more than big enough for two cars and is SHARED by the villa and the Apartment.

“Villa Miradouro certainly has good views!”
Reviewed 24 July 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We booked this place over New Year 2015/16. We were looking for a base that was within striking distance of Funchal, but also in the less 'touristy' western part of the island.

Arco da Calheta village is pretty central within the island, and the Villa Miradouro is situated in a commanding position on the edge of the village. This afforded us excellent opportunities to sit out on the balcony of an evening and watch the sun set over the village. The villa is but a short drive from the nearest supermarket, and there is also a corner shop-type establishment, which is a 10-15 minute walk down the hill. There are some interesting levada walks that start/finish in the vicinity.

The accommodation is well-appointed, with two spacious bedrooms (one en suite), both of which have balconies with views. The property is bug enough that four people would not get under one another's feet. There is an apartment in the lower ground floor of the villa (separately listed in TripAdvisor) which sleeps two. This offers a fair degree of flexibility for groups between 2 - 6 people.

The housekeeper was very helpful indeed - great local knowledge. She also purchased a welcome pack of basic groceries on our behalf.

Villa Miradouro was a great place from which to explore Funchal and the wider island. I would recommend that anyone visiting Madeira hire a car, and you definitely need one if you are basing yourself in Calheta area.

Overall, I thought this place was great and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to my fellow travellers.

Thanks for taking the trouble to do this quite comprehensive review. You mentioned a very important factor - the flexibility to accommodate up to 6 people by including the apartment in the rent. This is ideal for two couples that require privacy but like to stay at the same address.
You gust will be welcome to stay again (Just in case you found Madeira as addictive as I did! )

“Lovely in Every Way”
Reviewed 15 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

My husband and I stayed at Villa Miradouro in Arco da Calheta for five weeks and found it to be a wonderful experience. The Villa itself is true to its listing but it is so much more because of its location. Perched above a picturesque town, and overlooking the ocean, we never tired of sitting on one of the many balconies and savoring the warm sun, clean air, and local sounds. Since we had a nice long stay, we were able to explore every part of the island at our leisure and our location in Arco da Calheta positioned us to do that. We walked on many levadas and were thrilled to have one located just above the road from Villa Miradouro. The weekly farmers market in Prazeres was a treat that yielded all the passion fruit we could ever want, fresh vegetables, and delicious home-baked goods. Having a nicely appointed kitchen allowed us to pack picnic lunches for our walks, make some dinners in the evenings, and have coffee and local pastries in the morning. Villa Miradouro has to be the best value on the island! Thank you Kas for sharing your lovely home with us.

Liked best: The location was outstanding for someone who wants to be located outside of Funchal.
Liked least: Somewhat confusing directions to get from the airport to the meeting spot in Arco da Calheta.
