The first thing that you will notice about this place is the spaciousness inside and out. Large open plan living/dining/recreation areas, big bedrooms, soaring ceilings, large deck overlooking the huge backyard and pool. The character if the house is outstanding and you get the feeling you are stepping back in time when houses where made for the tropical lifestyle and comfort of the residents instead of a being made to cut costs (i.e. concrete/block box). The timber floors were a nice change for us after walking on tiles at home all the time and added to the charm of this house. Another great feature was the folding timber doors leading out to the back deck. With these open it was like bringing the outdoors inside and gentle breezes would flow through the house.
We found the beds. linen and pillows to be very comfortable and had very restful sleeps here. The owner has to recognised that customers need quality bedding and has not cut any costs.
The ensuite bathroom off the master bedroom was fantastic and once again HUGE. We loved the room to move in there and the spa bath was super relaxing.
Other positives for us were the ability to self-cater and once again, everything was thought of. The kitchen was fully accessorised and everything worked. We also used the modern/large barbeque a couple of times which was great to mix up the meal plans.
Our two kids were also very happy with the place. From playing in the pool (supervised by Mum and Dad from the deck enjoying a cold drink), to tiggy, to hide and seek, to using the free Wi-Fi for tablets and just watching movies on the big screen TV. Usually we are struggling to find things for the kids to do but here they occupied themselves for most of the time.
The house is located in Edge Hill which is one of best areas of Cairns. Within walking distance of the Botanical Gardens, The Tanks entertainment area, Red/Blue arrow walking tracks (which take you up to a great view of Cairns, the coastline and the Coral Sea) and many different shops, restaurants and a bottle shop.
We spoke to the owner (Billy) who offered to assist us with any information on local attractions and with any other enquires/assistance. It was good to know that he was available to assist us if needed.
I would highly recommend a stay at this property. It would suit a wide range people/occasions (families/reunions, romantics/weddings, birthdays, adventure seekers, meetings and gatherings of all kinds.
Traveled to Cairns to meet up with some longtime friends...singles and couples...so we needed a spacious area with lots of sleeping space, Was planning to book a place nearer to downtown Cairns but decided to book this place because of a desire to experience the classic feel of a true "Old Queenslander" style home....and I am so glad we did! This one of a kind architecture is the only way to really get feel of life in tropical Cairns. I immediately fell in love with open floor plan and the tasteful furnishings. The place is HUGE!! Lots of sleeping space for larger parties with room for dining and entertaining. BONUS!! Even has a ping pong table, a foosball table and a sweet BBQ area complete with BBQ! There is free Wi-Fi and a media room with a big screen TV, surround sound and cable! The owner lives a short distance away and was a wealth of information on things to do and see in the Cairns area. It was like having a personal tour guide at our finger tips. The home is a short walking distance to the Flecker Botanical Gardens and an even shorter walk (2 blocks) to the business district of Edge Hill...a quaint little area full of very cool shops, grocery stores, a variety of eclectic restaurants...and only a 5-10 minute drive from downtown Cairns where you can experience the Esplanade, the waterfront, the shopping and best of all the PEOPLE WATCHING. We had the time of our lives!.. This home provided us with the best bang for our buck. We are already planning our return trip to Cairns and this lovely home will be our first choice for accommodations!
