“Tjapukai show ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2016 via mobile

This was an incredible night. As we entered our faces were painted then through out the night we found out that it is a way of welcoming us into their tribe. We were there give a glass of champagne and canapés! We then went into the performance room and the Tjapukai people show us dances by the fire. The show was very interactive with the audience as we were singing and chanting through out the night. The food was delicious 5 start meals.
Throughly enjoyed my night and will be recommending this tour.

“Best part of a full day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2016

This was the best part of a full day out from our base in Port Douglas.
'Down Under' coach arrived on time and took us to the Tjapukai Aboriginal Centre. We were prepared for a fairly cheesy explanation about Aboriginal culture, but were pleasantly surprised by the events that were presented.
Our guide started by using some of the local art to explain the origins of his culture and we were treated to a show using some quite spectacular AV effects.
Several opportunities to ask questions to many of the performers and a go at throwing boomerangs and spears. The buffet lunch was quite adequate with food cooked in the traditional way that we had seen prepared 2 hours before.
We then took the Skyrail up to Kuranda where we had a chance to see plenty of tourist tat and after a couple of hours the Scenic Train back.

“Brilliant place to visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2016 via mobile

Loved coming to this cultural centre and learning more about the aboriginal people in a fun and interactive way. The highlight was trying spear throwing and using boomerangs which was great fun. And unusually you can take pictures of the aboriginals here too which is nice.

“Celebration of indigenous culture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2016

It's great to see a place in Cairns giving employment to indigenous local artists as well as sharing and celebrating aboriginal culture. The place has been refurbished fairly recently and looks slick.

We came for the night package which included canapés and drinks, a full buffet dinner as well as a aboriginal dance show and campfire performance. The artists were talented (I loved the spot on kangaroo impression by one of the male artists) as well as friendly (you can chat with them informally after the show) and the performance space and outdoor area is well designed and ambient.

I did feel the performance was a little short however. I would have liked to see a longer program of traditional dance and performance as what was offered seemed like only a quick taste of aboriginal culture. What was included was excellent but it was only around an hour of entertainment excluding the excellent buffet meal and welcome drinks/canapés. As I am a local I would also love to come back and am hoping the show is updated and reworked from time to time to keep people interested in returning and bringing in new guests.

The venue (given its size and spaciousness) would also lend itself well to regular concerts with indigenous cultural performances from a variety of artists similar to the ones seen at the Tjapukai Open Day I attended recently which had an excellent turn out of locals.

All in all, Tjapukai is highly recommended.

“Wonderful cultural experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2016

The demonstrations and entertainment were fantastic. It was really interesting to speak with the aboriginal guides and ask questions. They were most informative. Being able to throw a boomerang and spear was lots of fun. We had plenty of turns to get the hang of it. The dancers were great and they got the audience involved which made it very enjoyable. A really worthwhile place to visit.
