Gabriel is so passionate about his biodynamic farm. He has a wonderful story to tell about producing coffee in such a healthy way. We buy coffee from his family at the farmer market in Atenas every chance we get. It's a fun and informative few hours just outside of Atenas, well worth the trip.

El Toledo, a family owned organic coffee farm is a must experience for coffee lovers! My husband enjoyed the tour even though he is not a coffee drinker! Gabriel is very knowledgeable regarding growing coffee organically as well as incorporating other fruits and vegetables on the farm with the coffee plants to create a more profitable income. I was amazed by what I learned about farming the fruit, the processing process, and to the table. Gabrielle 's mother made coffee for us, light, medium, and dark roast to taste. The coffee is very good...brought some home!!! A great experience!!

Visiting El Toledo Organic Coffee Farm was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. It is well worth the drive to the town of Atenas, just outside of San Jose. Gabriel's family has been farming in this region of Costa Rica for multiple generations and he is exceptionally knowledgeable about growing, harvesting, drying, roasting, brewing and educating people about coffee beans. Additionally, he is passionate about organic farming practices and you learn so much about the biodiversity of organic farming. We highly recommend you take this tour. It will change your entire perspective on organic foods.

Gabriel is extremely knowledgeable and a very good teacher. His family story shows the cost and benefit from moving from chemical based monoculture farming to organic to diverse shade growing. Very worthwhile and inspiring. Delicious coffee.

We never did the tour and wish we had! We had picked up some El Toledo coffee from the Atenas Farmers Market when we first arrived in Costa Rica. It is truly the best coffee I have ever had. We ended up making two more trips to the farm to buy more during our month-long stay in Costa Rica. This is a lovely, family-owned operation. We had a delightful typical Costa RIcan lunch there also. Sometimes they have coffee wine available for purchase (it's a new product for them) which is really interesting! We had to take some home for friends! A really fun, pretty drive and if you use "WAZE" you will have no problem finding this place! You will want to call or email and not just show up as they do have days they are not available for tours or lunches.
