My wife and I just stayed here for our first anniversary in the Emily half of the cottage, and overall really enjoyed our stay - but as always it's the little things that make the difference between good and great. I haven't been to many B&B's though so maybe I'm just expecting too much..
The scenery and location is fantastic, the cottage itself is very clean and superbly well maintained. The bed is comfortable, the spa really is big enough for two people (not like some 'double' spas in other places), the large shower-head is divine and the breakfast foods taste great as well. You are only 30 minutes from Hobart, but it feels like the middle of nowhere.
This is where the contrasts come in. For the price you pay, there are things you expect that you don't get, and things you do get that you wouldn't expect. For example, the eggs and bacon and juice are high quality, but there is no peanut butter and cornflakes is the only cereal. You get a stereo, TV, DVD player and some cd's and DVD's to use, but the couch is a tiny 2 seater that is really hard to relax in. You get an espresso coffee machine, but no paper towel is provided. The bedroom is comfortable but it would be nice if some bathrobes were included. Likewise the bathroom but no shampoo or conditioner. The list goes on...
We also got the 'Romantic Dinner for Two' which should really be called 'Gourmet Meals on Wheels' because that's exactly what it is - you get dinner delivered to your door in polystyrene boxes and that's it. No candles, noone serving the meals or pouring the drinks - not much romance there. For an extra $120 (we paid $145 for just the room the first night, $265 for the 'romantic' dinner and accomodation the second night) I was expecting a lot more. You could pay that much for the same quality dinner at a fancy restaurant in Melbourne - and there you're paying for overheads! Sorry guys, but if that's at cost like you told me, you're getting ripped off. But anyway I guess romance is what you make it...
Overall the facilities were better than average and we had a great weekend away.
Oh and I should mention that Emily and Eliza are two halves of the same building - not separate cottages as suggested by the web site - and you do hear the other half going to the toilet/shower etc.
