Having tasted Château de la Riviere in a restaurant, we set off to order a case directly from the Chateau. On arrival we headed straight to the Boutique and spoke to a lovely lady named Anne, who gave us a tasting of their white wine, as well as the red that we had already tried. The white wine was something of a surprise; it was amazing. She was very helpful and knowledgeable about the estate, and quickly found out the details for shipping to the UK while we decided what we wanted to order. Unfortunately we didn't have time to look around the grounds, but what we saw was truly stunning. What an amazing location! I see that the chateau also offers accommodation, which would be a good choice for anyone looking for a relaxing break exploring the Fronsac area.

This is just a review of a visit to the winery.

We spent 7 days in this region of France and Riviere was by far our favorite Chateau to visit. Amazing tour, just breath taking property and chateau. The quarry is miles and miles of underground wine storage with graffiti from hundreds of years ago.

Note - this was not our favorite wine to taste but our favorite Chateau experience.

This place is a wonderful place to tour but somewhat south of mediocre to taste. The tour of the wonderful quarry/ caves was special and makes the trip worthwhile. The caves were actually used by the French resistance during ww2 and you can actually feel that vibe in the caves. The wine tasting was not very good. We tasted the rose' which was pale and too fruity! Then we had the 2015 second label that was not as good as some of the local farm wine we had earlier. Finally the first level wine was a 2007 that was too light got and shallow. It is sold through trader joes and I will not spend any time looking for it. Go for the tour, not the Wine!

The Chateau de la Riviere is a large structure, reached via a very long driveway. There is a hotel complex in the old building, which has splendid views of the valley. There is a pool where the ladies used to dip their toes in the fresh spring that runs through the property. The highlight is the tour of the caves, formed from the old quarry. There is a large dining room, small dining room, remnants of the French Resistance, and more bottles than you care to count (though only from the 1960's on). The tour guide was very charming, and the experience ends with a tasting opportunity.

We went to Chateau de la Riviere for a Bastille day concert and tour, This chateau is set in a most beautiful area of Bordeaux overlooking the Dordogne. For € 10 per person we had a tour of the chateau and caves containing 500,000 bottles of wine plus a four hour live arts performance which was amazing. With wine and tapas at rock bottom prices the night was relaxed and so enjoyable.A memorable experience.
