This hotel is in the heart of the Mosel wine region and is a great place to go wine tasting. The hotel itself is very comfortable, the service is excellent and the restaurant serves excellent regional cuisine at a fair price. Breakfast buffet has a great variety of well prepared dishes. The hotel has no air conditioning. While this was not at all a factor for us on a cool day in mid September, it can be a problem in mid summer. The other issue is that their larger rooms (classified as junior suites) are located on the second floor and the only natural light is from 3 small dormer windows. Our room was quite dark during the day. All in all, though, an excellent place to stay in the middle of the Mosel.

Dear A.A.W.,

thank you very much for your kind statement concerning your recent stay. I am encouraged that you enjoyed the short break in our hotel and that the services as well as the dishes in the restaurants and the breakfast were to your satisfaction.

Due to our historical buildings and the monument protection the rooms in one part of the hotel have cosy dormer Windows on the second and third floor. Therefore I recommend a room or the “Parksuite” on the first floor for your next stay.

It would be a pleasure for us to spoil you soon again!

Yours faithfully

This is a tough place to rate. I wish there was an average plus or very good minus. We booked based on Fodor's Germany travel guide. First, the staff is hardworking, very nice, and courteous. Top notch. However, the rooms were barely average. The spa barely average. The location, in Mulheim, is not where you want to be although only about 2 miles from Bernkastel-Kues which is a small quaint town and where you should stay. I should have taken note of the fact that when I inquired I was told no rooms had a view of the Mosel River. I can't imagine why Fodor's would recommend this place. The website is amazing with respect to presenting the property although not in English and suggested a magnificent place. With pictures of their cellars I thought it was a vineyard property. It is not. The spa with grape seed oil massages sounded world class. It is not even close. The property from the outside it sharp and inviting but the rooms are barely average. We stayed during a cool rainy period in July so the lack of air conditioning and heat mentioned by others was not an issue but noise from the highway just a short distance from the property (closer than the river) was annoying with east side rooms like 109. Don't book the meal ahead of time without knowing the menu. It is set and you might not like it. The breakfast dining area was a plus as were the staff. I don't see any reason to stay here in Mulheim rather than Bernkastel-Kues. Although the two day stay here was ok, it was a big disappointment and we won't return. In this amazing area get a room with a Mosel view. The Hotel Drei Kronige in Bernkastel- Kues looks amazing from the outside and was right on the river. You might consider this as an option but check it out.

Room tip: Avoid rooms on east side because of noise from road and breakfast area.

The main complaint is the lack of AC. Our room, on the 3rd floor, was a hot house at night (90 degrees during the day) which made for a completely unpleasant experience. Fans were provided, but were inadquate and just blew the 80+ degree hot air around. I inquired (and complained) with the front desk staff why they didn't get a mobile cooling unit of some kind for times like this and was told the owner didn't want to spend the money, though this was a common complaint. My response was the the owner should spend a night on the 3rd floor and see what the guest experience is like (trying to sleep while profusely sweating!) My other complaint was the cleanliness. This is an historic hotel, but the carpets were filthy, furniture was soiled. On the plus side, their restaurant Culinarium was outstanding, Remise and their breakfast buffet were both very good. Hotel staff overall were very friendly and provided good service.

Room tip: The 3rd floor rooms are going to be the hottest in summer months.

Booked this via TripAdvisor and was pleased with the outcome. Our room 207 was large and the bathroom, whist not huge, was clean. The bed was a bit lumpy and, my normal hotel gripe - the towels were thin and almost useless. However, the breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of choice - and even eggs to order. Euro 240 for the night was pricey for low season but we were okay with it.
