Stayed here for the last few days of a memorable trip to St Lucia. Tried out a few different places from the north down including the luxurious but this was an absolute highlight. Memorable location, hidden away, excellent hosts and amazing local people and experiences. Totally and genuinely friendly. Felt it was the real St Lucia. Could not have been a better end to a fabulous holiday

“It doesn't get better than this”

We arrived at Hewanorra Airport and were greeted by Jan per our request. She was immediately engaging which was a sign of the good times to come. She was happy to stop by the grocery store on the way to our rental.

When we arrived, we were greeted by her dogs - 4 magnificent and fun girls! Toffee, Sonny, Nudge and Hop-a-long. We had left our little pup at home and it helped to have furry friends to play with. If you don't like dogs in general, perhaps Laborie is not for you as they are just as present as the rest of the community.

The apartment itself was clean and inviting. Milk, tea, coffee (instant), water (you will drink lots), and a pack of biscuits (cookies) were supplied. There were clean bath towels. There is a wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 night stands. There are 2 full size beds, one with a mosquito net. There was also TV with cable (not the world's best reception.) The wifi signal was strong and there was no interruption of service during our stay. There is a binder of available services as well as local highlights to peruse. Read the memory book, you'll like what you read.

The pictures DO NOT LIE. Out the back gate is the Caribbean Sea. The beach and water were clean. We didn't do much lounging but when we did go for a dip, there were locals also getting their daily swim in.

The village of Laborie - I am ready to move there TODAY. The locals are incredibly friendly - everyone says hello and you are expected to do the same in return. Don't be shy. We had a few gentlemen offer us tour services but no one tried to sell us anything. Not at all. That will be important to remember if you go to Soufriere where you will be approached immediately upon arrival.

Best places to eat: Big Bamboo (say hi to Skeeter for us!), Mama Tilly's (very informal), and Manda's - where Debbie's used to be, at the Craft Centre just up some stairs from Rudy John Beach. We were also invited to a BBQ at someone's house just up the hill from the apartment. If you get an invitation, I'd recommend taking them up on it if you'd like to. We cooked breakfast for ourselves in the apartment and ended up saving some money.

Things to do: Get a Piton and enjoy the local refreshment. There are also some tasty Piton shandies, local sodas, and fresh juices.

Walk around Laborie and meet the locals. Again, they could not have been more inviting. This was hands down the best part of the trip. Really - don't be afraid to say hi or ask folks how they are doing. Don't be shy when they ask you in return.

Catch the bus! It's cheap and you can catch it right in front of Big Bamboo. You will go to Vieux Fort first if you're looking to explore the island on your own. This is also the best way to get to the grocery store if Jan and Tony aren't available.

Go to Big Bamboo on Thursday night for outdoor karaoke. It was a blast!

Get a tour from Farmer (driver) and Yarde (guide) - we did an 8 hour tour, going to all the Soufriere highlights - Diamond Falls, Sulphur Springs, Botanical Garden and the Cocoa Plantation. We also had a chance to eat in Marigot Bay. They also stopped for lots of picture opportunities. I don't recommend trying to do Soufriere on your own (unless you rent a car - which I also don't recommend.) Just the sheer pressure to buy, buy, buy was overwhelming and incredibly persistent.

Go to Castries (mainly to check it out) - it's a busy place but we didn't find a ton to do that didn't require a drive out of the city. We were mainly looking for knick knacks to take home but were disappointed to find a lot of "Made in China" stuff that just said St Lucia on it. Have Jan take you to her friend’s place just outside Laborie - she has Piton t-shirts, hand-made dolls and masks, and woven things (place mats, etc.)

Enjoy Rudy John beach. It's beautiful, quiet and safe. Enjoy swimming or just sunning. You'll sure to see locals enjoying the beach as well.

Get a massage from Sherrin! She came right to the apartment and gave a full hour long massage for an incredible rate.

MOST IMPORTANTLY - Remember you are visiting someone else's home - not just the apartment which is attached to the main house, but Laborie itself. The folks in Laborie are regular people with regular lives. They are not resort employees and do things when asked politely. Laborie is Laborie for a reason. Please be respectful of the community, the beach and the animals. If you engage with the community, you will leave it a better place than when you found it.

I absolutely CANNOT wait to go back. I'd go right now if I could. If I could find a way to stay forever, I would.

Mango Splash and Laborie are truly hidden Caribbean gems.

“Excellent beach front location”

Mango Splash is a stunning house in a very enviable position right on the beach front. Laborie is a very friendly village where we felt very safe and welcome. Tony and Jan are the perfect hosts and their friendly and helpful information folder was really useful.
The beds were very comfortable, you can have one double bed and a sofa, or two double beds using a comfy mattress on the sofa bed. The flat was lovely and clean and well equipped. It was also lovely and cool thanks to the air conditioning and fan. Highly recommend.
