My family of 6 stayed here for two weeks in June. We had a lovely time and the views were beautiful especially at sunset. We also had a dinner cooked for us all by the chefs from the bungalows and this made a very lovely night. We had maids in every other day for cleaning and they done a very good job and were as helpful as they could be.
However this home needs a lot of TLC. we could not use the steps to the sea in the last few days of being here as the bolts were so rusty that they snapped off and the ladder was only attached at the bottom this was completely unsafe for the children! The only other way into the sea was through the water hole and even on this part there were half rotten steps coming from on side with nails hanging out of them. On our day of arrival we were told that the mesh under the decking was being repaired as it had come loose and was half hanging off and still on the day we checked out two weeks later it was still the same. The pictures promoted a beautiful over the water swing... this is in bad condition and also you can't get on it! As there are no steps and it's hanging out over the middle of the sea!
Air conditioning in the rooms leaked - it worked but leaked. We had rats in the kitchen mice in the toilets although we told the maids and they did solve this problem for us as they were very helpful. The promotion said there was cable TV and there wasn't - although this wasn't an issue as it wasn't needed.
We could not get hold of anyone to inform them of the issues as we were never sucsessful in getting through. And alistaire takes over a week to respond to an email.
Also be aware that you will get bitten to death here so bring insect repellent.
Overall the only positive to this villa is the views you have from the decking area. Everything else needs a lot of love and attention - personally I feel it is unsafe. Not worth the money that was asked of us for a two week stay.
Long story short....we were originally booked at Aruba Ocean Villas (Old Man and The Sea) and there was an error when we booked, on the owners part, the bungalow we reserved was...ooops...not available on our arrival date. He kindly offered us a stay at Casa Alistaire at no additional cost. Casa Alistaire is an off site private home that they own as well, just down the road.
So I look into the house we will be staying in and see that it is so much more spacious and looks breathtaking from the photos. I think we may be happier staying there for the duration of our stay. The cost-an additional $450 per day. We decide to go for it! However, I am not sure we made the best decision. The house is absolutely stunning, however, it is dirty, and needs much updating. There were many, many light bulbs out inside and outside of the house and it was very frustrating to even locate light switches.
With a bit of help the house could be stunning. It has amazing art throughout and incredible detail. But when the kitchen chandelier looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years, the area rugs are filthy, couches and throw pillows dirty....I don't even feel like the sheets were clean, it takes away from the beauty so much. Like I said, so much potential, majorly needs TLC.
Bring bug spray and wipes for your feet because they will be filthy. I just think if they are going to charge lofty prices, then the house needs to be up to par. To me it was not and I was disappointed. I gave it 3 stars for the art, uniqueness of the home, and the view is incredible. Otherwise, 2...
This was the most amazing place to stay. It truly exceeded our expectations. Our hosts treated us like family. May friends and I decided to make this an annual vacation. So relaxing, away from tourists. The best part is you could sleep outside if you wanted. You were picked up from the airport and dropped off, so no need to get a rental. Just bring your floats or boards and enjoy.

The home was impressive for sure. From the minute you walk in to a baby grand piano and all windows across the back leading out to the wrap around deck with unobstructed views of the water. The home had a Moroccan vibe with great furniture. The deck was perfect for lounging, fishing and jumping into the water. Osyth, the host, was amiable and informative.
My only complaints would be that the photos are not completely accurate. For example, there are no chairs/table built into the water as shown in the grotto picture. In fact, the stairs going into the grotto are broken and so you should be very careful. The day bed did not have the canopy for shade either.
Overall, expect to be impressed with the sunset from the deck for sure! If you're looking to stay somewhere with a beach and the light blue waters, this is not your spot as it is deeper water and darker blue with no beach.
I can assure you this is not an exaggeration. Casa Alistaire was our home for about four days in March 2016. The house slept 8 with a massive kitchen, four full, well cooled rooms, tons of dining space, a stunning dock and THE OCEAN. The pictures are incredibly accurate with the exception of the grotto; the seats have been removed and the ladder has been eroded by the sea.
The service provided on site is second to none. Osyth and Juan David made every effort to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Osyth normally includes one trip to/from the airport to take guests to the house, BUT she made a huge effort to get all three group pickups at different times. In one instance, one of the beds was bit uncomfortable for one of my friends and Juan David arrived in minutes with a replacement. I can't tell you how humble, polite and helpful these two and their staff were. I know that it's not the last time I'll see them.
The one observation I can offer to future guests is that communication with Jonathan, the manager of the property, can be difficult. Sometimes it's hard to get a hold of him for certain information.
Aside from that, don't second guess yourself. Book this location and experience true hospitality while staying in Aruba.
