“comfortable, relaxing and ideally situated for exploring Wiltshire”
Reviewed 12 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

A lovely place to stay, with "all mod cons"
We had a 4 night stay for a family birthday and get together, the Milk House catered to our needs just nicely!
On arrival, we found the place clean, tidy and well presented. Lovely hanging baskets outside and nesting birds (housemartins?) flying back and forth from under the eaves. The kitchen is fully equipped with all that you may need, the work top space is somewhat limited for food preparation, but that doesn't detract from what was otherwise a pleasure to cook in.
When we opened the back door off the kitchen, it was a delight to discover the orchard, trampoline and patio area. Even our Labrador was chuffed to bits to be able to play out amongst the apple trees, although it turned out he wasn't very good at trampolining!
The bedrooms were comfortable and I had probably the best nights sleep in ages.
There are technically only 2 bathrooms though, not 3 as advertised, the 3rd, is just a toilet and washbasin. The downstairs bathroom is a well presented wet room style, which the whole family used because, as previous reviews have stated, the upstairs bathroom is rather impractical to use for showering due to positioning of the bath and shower.
All in all, we had a lovely stay set back in a beautiful location. We would definitely recommend the Milk House and would be surprised if anyone could possibly be disappointed with a stay here!

“Warm and comfortable with lovely view and great service”

The Milk House has comfortable beds, a well-appointed kitchen with a family-sized table and a living room ideal for family chat and recreation. The owner is helpful, kind and makes sure that her clients have an enjoyable stay. My one reservation is the upstairs bathroom which is under the eves and not the most convenient in use. The downstairs bathroom, however, is near-perfect and was popular with the whole party!

Outside, the friendly dexter cows and the sheep provide a backdrop to an idyllic country scene on a hill that seems to have been specially designed by nature! Also outside is the kindly farmer, busy but always ready to talk about his animals to the delight of the children in the party - they were lucky to be there at lambing time.

Pubs and village shops abound, country walks start on the doorstep. And the farmer's hens produce super eggs. Devizes and Warminster are an easy drive away, the Caen locks being must-see attraction.

Altogether a rewarding and enjoyable experience for a family ranging from 11 to 83 years in age.

“Another perfect stay at The Milk House”
Reviewed 1 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

This is our second trip in six months. We stayed from 25th march -1st April.
Wonderful place.
Mixture of weather but that gives you an excuse to stay in around the log burner when it is bad.
Our grandchildren who live not to far away came over and had hours of fun on the huge trampoline. It was lambing season and Tony the farmer who rents the fields from Rebecca allowed them to pet the newly born lambs which for a 3 and 4 year old was magical. The huge 10 seater kitchen table allowed us to have the whole family over for a wonderful easter lunch. Rebecca had kindly filled the small room with toys which was great when the rain came for the children.
The cottage has everthing you need. Easy drive to Bath,Stonehenge,Devizes, Salisbury and further.
We have stayed in many beautiful cottages and homes over the years but this beats them all hands down.
We shall return again and again.

“Heaven in Wiltshire!!!”
Reviewed 8 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

This place is idyllic. The accommodation is everything you could wish from a country cottage - cosy, comfortable yet very high spec. A home-from-home well equipped kitchen, relaxing living area with brilliant log burner and very comfy beds. We wanted for nothing when we stayed here. Rebecca seemed more of a friend throughout the whole booking and stay rather than a 'landlord' and we were so content knowing she was on hand for literally anything!!

I cannot praise Rebecca and the cottage enough - truly felt like we popped to stay at a friend's house!!! Thank you.

“Wonderful Stay, Lovely Building & Incredibly Helpful Owner”
Reviewed 12 February 2016 for a stay in April 2014

I'm in two minds about writing this review, because after this I suspect it'll be so sold out I'll never have a chance to stay there again!

We came over a few years back for an impromptu Easter vacation to see the UK extended family. At the time, the Milk House cottage I think had only just been renovated, gone on the market and I have to say Rebecca did a wonderful job - it's absolutely lovely place to stay and has a lot of character. Evenings were spent downstairs reading with the children with the log fire going. Our UK family would drop in and the kitchen, with the long table, was perfect for entertaining and for Easter dinner. The drying racks were a nice features - we used those a few times when it rained and our kit got wet.

One other thing we needed was for our young (5 & 2.5 year old) US born children to experience the British countryside. Erlestoke is a perfect place for this, and the start point for a really nice hike from Erlestoke to the Three Daggers Pub at Edington via Coulston. Not a long hike but perfect for the young ones and a great destination for lunch to meet up with those that are elderly and drive.... Have a nice walk in the countryside, a great pub lunch and a beer, then walk a couple of miles home. You can't beat that. We did that a few times because it was so easy - the path starts literally at the cottage, but the area has a ton of hiking.

Also we'll never forget the children going hunting for real eggs in Easter, being told about the different chickens having different personalities and also Tony introducing the children to the farm animals. Again Rebecca was a wonderful host and her recommendations were spot on and really helped us get the best out of our stay.

Heads up for Rebecca - we're coming back and this time we have 3 youngsters! Look forward to seeing you!

Cheers

Rich & Jül Schofield
