“Very nice flat, very nice people!”
Reviewed 26 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

I haven't been to Lagrasse for far to many years and it's still nice and charming, although due to easter holidays there were quite a lot of people.

First I want to say that everybody we met in connection with this rental (Amélie, Kate, Roger) was very nice and helpful. Roger fixed the little problems we had right away.

The Market gite is nice, clean and spacious, especially the living romm/kitchen area. The beds were also good, which is not always the case.

The only "downside" ist that you don't have any balcony in this flat. There is of course the very nice spot behind the house, but it's two stairs down and sometimes you just want to step outside for a drink or something. The other flats in the house looked even nicer and they have a balcony, so if you want one, you should book one of them. It's just the way these old houses are buit.

As there is always room for improvement, just some little points:
- A bit more cutlery (knives, small spoons) would be convenient
- 2 or 3 cutting boards are really missing
- The Wifi signal is very weak in the flat

As you see, these are just minor points and are just mentioned to help improve this fabulous flat even more!

We would definitely recommend a stay in Kate's and Roger's house to anyone!

“Great Location, Charming village”
Reviewed 30 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Two weeks stay. Good communication throughout booking/payment etc. Roger, Amelie and Eppo were all very friendly and helpful, Roger a top bloke giving top tips on locations/directions etc. The Market gite was very central. Very peaceful 90% of stay. We were there during Music festival weekend, we were warned prior to booking that it would be very late and loud. We took the chance however only managed one night, moved to Carcassonne for 2 night break while festival ran its course. The gite is rustic/shabby chic you might say, a melting pot of furniture styles/ages etc, as most of the gites we stay in France are, all very comfortable. The garden area is wild and runs down to great swimming pools in the river with a good choice of loungers/deck chairs etc. Plenty of wildlife around the place, Fish in the river and the odd small snake, a bat in the table tennis cellar and little vole type critters galloping around the patio after dark, all good fun... A change of bedding/towels would have been nice after the first week. All in all a good experience.

“We loved this charming well appointed apartment”
Reviewed 15 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Riverside Gites was such a delight, offering proper French charm with spacious rooms and private outdoor space. We were looked after so well by the proprietors who went out of their way to organise restaurant bookings and bike hire whilst respecting our privacy.. Lagrasse is a stunning village with plenty of great restaurants and interesting artisan shops.

“Delightful, ideal location and easy parking available nearby”
Reviewed 18 April 2016 for a stay in July 2014

Pros
Very clean throughout, bedrooms a bit stark, sitting room was lovely and comfy and with a decent sized kitchen / dining area.

A lovely welcome by the owner Kate and her assistant Amelie.

We found Lagrasse to be a beautiful village that also offers superb walking country on its outskirts in the hills, as well as along the river. The town's small market was a delight to shop in and we enjoyed patronising the varied restaurants and wine caves. Trips to the coast didn't take us long either.

A photographers delight, there are just so many opportunities here and around!

Properly location is ideal!

Cons
These are meant as constructive criticism and, with just a few changes, could well improve this desirable holiday let.

A bit too much clutter in the apartments entrance for our liking (some magazines went back to 2011) - with two children and their bits and bobs it is easy to lose items amongst such ephemera.

Bathroom and loo are very clean but also very small. However the 1960s look not only dates the facilities (avocado I recall) but also make it look ‘and feel’ old. Just how many bums…! A bathroom modernisation in-keeping with the character would greatly benefit this apartment.

Oven control markings are erased and indiscernible.

Only two T-towels, four would be better.

Food preparation knives were blunt.

Apartment does not face onto market square as the website suggests, it faces the Post Office wall. Not a big issue though, as by gently craning your head to the right most of the market square is visible.

Riverside garden was unkempt. If the owners took an hour or so to tidy the area and prune wayward plants it would make for a lovely space to sit out in. Add a few nice items of furniture, and say a fire-pit, then the whole area would be transformed - and add value to the rental!

The shop owner - through which the apartment is accessed, always had a stern look on his face. It would be nice to see a smile and hear a returned “hello” (which costs him nothing).

Other:
It would be nice to have food starter packs on offer at prices like £14.99 and £29.99 for those of us who arrive later than expected.

Thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us, yes Lagrasse and the surrounding area really is special. Since you visited us two years ago we have redecorated the bathroom but did decide to keep the bath as it is an extremely comfortable bath. I thought the 70's character was a part of history and a unique style but Roger finally persuaded me to change it. The outdated magazine you were referring too had a good article about the Languedoc which is why we kept it. I'm sorry you found two tea towels inadequate, we would happily have given you more if you had asked, we are on hand and always want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Blunt knives are really annoying I agree but we do provide a knife sharpener in the cutlery drawer. The riverside beach is indeed left wild , if you are looking for a manicured garden this place is not for you. There are many wild plants and flowers that grow up every year, and each year the character of the riverbank changes. We would love to have a fire pit but due to risk of fire it is not allowed. We do maintain the terraced garden with its small lawn.
I'm sorry you found the bedrooms stark perhaps it's because when we have a dogs staying in the gite we take out the Persian rug, there are however rugs and/or pictures on the wall and side lights, We used to live in the apartment as a family and I put up lots of mirrors so that I could see the view of the market place when standing in the kitchen. When standing at the window you do have a lovely view of the market place, no need to crane your neck. Eppo can sometimes come across as reserved especially when he is sewing and preoccupied he doesn't always connect with gite guests coming in and out which may seem unfriendly but it's purely because his mind was elsewhere. He is always very helpful and willing when guests ask stop and ask him questions even tho it is not his job. Either Amelie, Roger or myself are about and should are paths not cross we hope you will leave us a note.

“comfortable accommodation in a lovely location”
Reviewed 31 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We stayed a long weekend in the Garden Gite. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable, Roger was very helpful showing us around. The gite is in an ancient building right on the market square. There is direct access to the river behind as well as a games room in the basement for table tennis. All was perfect - thanks.
