NOT BAD

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Sept 2017
Room was good, veiw from balcony over looking ocean was great.Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bar was good food was excellent beer was cold.
I had a one bedroom apartment for two nights it was a good size but the TV was a bit to small for that size room. But over all it was a good stay.

I was booked in by my company ($170, room only) as I had an early flight the next morning and the airport is 5 mins away. I had a simple and fairly small bedroom overlooking the highway (no traffic noise) that was OK but no desk or chair unless you brought one in from the small balcony. The bathroom window shade was inadequate at night given the room was well overlooked by the other wings and it demonstrated an element of cheapness in the refurbishment. A tattooing conference was on when I stayed, which made for some very interesting (and colourful) guests and parking could have been difficult but the check-in staff were very helpful getting me into the underground car park. The hotel is now really serviced apartments, which is fine, but meant that some typical hotel services are unavailable such as charge-to-room for meals at the restaurant, which I found irksome. The restaurant menu was frankly fairly limited to club type fare and prices and service were rather club like (order and pay at the desk) like but portions were good and the staff friendly. No-one at reception when I checked out at 0600, which tends to reinforce the lack of hotel facilities. For a simple overnight stay the hotel was adequate but for holidays I might be inclined to look around although, in fairness, the hotel is right on the beach.

Room tip: Ask for a sea view if staying for any period of time but there was little road noise even though the highway runs right alongside.

This stayed here two nights, primarily for my partners birthday on that weekend. I booked well in advance as I know how popular this location is for weddings on a weekend. I did my research and requested a specific style and location of room, which we were allocated and very happy with. From check in to check out all of the staff were extremely helpful and courteous. The bed was too firm for our liking, so after the first night we requested a mattress topper, which was fitted when our room was serviced. This made the bed just perfect and we enjoyed much better sleep on the second night. We ate at the bistro downstairs, which was a pleasant experience, with the staff, service and food all excellent. Our plan for Sunday was for me to go to golf early and my partner to check out later and have a day at the spa. Unfortunately after I left for golf, my partner was taken ill with a bout of gastro. The staff were extremely helpful, allowing her to stay in the room until I returned. We am eternally to the housekeeping and reception staff for all of their care and understanding. I would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend this resort to anyone.

Room tip: Book your room well in advance and specify the type of room you want.

Scored a deal on the Ramada website for 2 nights in an oceanview room for $214. Stayed Wednesday and Thursday nights and got lucky and due to our allocated room having 'issues' we were placed in a room on the 5th floor of the middle tower. Great ocean views, neat and tidy room, big shower, decent balcony. Bar and restaurant on site are great. Being so close to the airport means plane noise during the day, but not too bad. No idea what a room would be like facing the road and airport but I would say pay the extra and have oceanview.

We were three families and booked two 3 bedroom apartments. Each had two bathrooms and a kitchnette. All amenities available in the apartments. Very happy with the accommodation and courteous and friendly staff. Allowed us late checkout for one of the apartments. Pool was heated. I would stay at this hotel again !

Room tip: Higher Floors better, however, few have ocean view

Even though I requested a high floor, as I always do on my business trips, I was placed in a run down, motel 6 style room on the first floor, directly above the pub. Thursday was karaoke night...
By 11pm, after a long day, I called Joel, the night security manager, who is the only saving grace for the property.
He moved me within 10 minutes to the 3rd floor with an ocean view and offered a bottle of wine etc. I of course declined the cheap sparkling that I'm sure is usually on offer from properties of this calibre, but he gave me some ferrero rocher and a pack of cheese and crackers and apologised profusely.

The rooms are old and in desperate need of an upgrade. I had a 1 bed apartment for 2 nights. Small tv in lounge, nothing in bedroom except 1 bedside lamp that doesn't work. The rooms aren't soundproof, being next to the airport, that's not a good thing. And the pub downstairs plays live music on Friday's until around 12pm.
The restaurant attached to the pub downstairs is terrible, I've already reviewed separately but please eat elsewhere. I won't be returning to the terrible, substandard hotel (motel is a better description). I expected better from a Ramada property.

Hi Matt S,

Thanks for your feedback following your recent stay with us. I am sorry that you were disturbed by noise from the bistro under the hotel, but can assure you they operate within their license conditions. As for the food offering at Surfair, we receive very favorable comments on this, and continue to recommend this to our guests.

Unfortunately we are not always able to meet the expectations of our guest, and I am sorry that you feel the resort is not to your expectations.

Thank you again for your feedback.
