Arrived to a lovely welcome pack, much appreciated after a delayed journey. Cottage very clean and well equipped with plenty of crockery, pans etc. Good sized fridge/freezer, handy to save trips to Tesco. Very comfortable bed with nice quality linen. Located in nice village with friendly pub and plenty of good walks, people were very friendly and helpful. Both pubs did food and were dog friendly.
We were very lucky with the weather and visited all the local beaches, only a short drive away. You could walk miles along the wonderful coastline. Spent ages sat on the rocks watching and listening to the many seals, must have been at least 50. Could have just sat their all day, loved it. We accessed the beach at Horsey from the path facing the National Trust car park. Don't forget to have a look at the Windpump and follow the path past the boats to Horsey Mare. A few miles further is the village of Winterton. Went twice to the Dunes Beach Cafe just for the crab sandwiches and delicious cake. They have 4 beach huts you can sit in, brilliant idea. Hired a boat for half a day at Wroxham, really enjoyed that, passed some very nice properties on the waters edge. There is a really good department store in Wroxham called Roy's, seemed to sell everything if you fancy a bit of retail therapy. Drove from there to Norwich for the afternoon, a very nice city. All in all had a brilliant week. My husband and I really enjoyed it and our border terrier definitely did.
Very quite rural setting, excellent position to take advantage of the Norfolk broads, with a short walk the local friendly pub.
Short drive to the coast with plenty of attractions or peace and quite whichever fancy.
Owner's are great friendly couple both very helpful.
The cottage is a good base to visit the seals, Great Yarmouth horse racing, the broads for a boat trip, poppylands food which has a dads army theme and menu and many more. Cottage was very clean and cosy and secure for our little dog. The greyhound pub very popular with good food and friendly staff . Locals also friendly
The cottage is located just off a quiet road near the centre of Hickling. It was therefore very quiet and peaceful. Hickling is a small village so only has 1 shop which is located in a pub that is reasonably near by - just about walkable (at about half an hour walk). that pub (The Pleasure Boat inn has a good location but fairly limited food. The Greyhound is much closer and has a much wider variety of food and is very good. We visited the nearby nature reserve at Hicking Broad and was able to take a guided bird-watching boat trip which was interesting and fun. We also visited the nearby beaches of sea Palling and Horsey - both very good - sandy and seals in the water at Horsey. The cottage is fairly small but very clean, well equipped and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
An ideal base for enjoying the Norfolk Broads and surrounding area. Wifi reception excellent and there was a mobile signal too - other areas have been a little patchy. Garden delightful - a perfect place to "stand and stare". Thanks Jo and Phil
