We visited for coffee and cake after a visit to Traquair House.

The day of our visit was pouring down with rain, and we were the only people in the restaurant. So the staff were very attentive! Our coffees were great, just what we needed, and the cakes were delicious. Both coffee and cake were a little pricey, but this is to be expected given the 'touristy' nature of the location.

Afterwards we enjoyed taking a look around the restaurant at the artworks hanging on the walls, and wished it had been a day for sitting outside as the outdoors area looked lovely.

£9.50 for a plain omelette- 50p to add cheese, another 50p to add ham. This does not come with chips or crisps - only a pathetic side salad (just lettuce no dressing). £10 for a ploughmans salad but only one tiny little roll comes with it. Soup was lukewarm but unfortunately only reasonably priced item on the menu. Panini definitely wasn't worth £9. When we took our seats outside we had to clear the table ourselves and move it onto another dirty table which was not cleared throughout the duration of our lunch (much to the delight of a black bird who kept coming back for scraps). We arrived just after 2pm and the cafe was full of American tourists so maybe they were prioritised and we received scraps? You would think with these high prices there would receive full table service but you have to go up to pay yourself and collect your own cutlery too. The cutlery and the milk jugs etc were not very clean. The only thing we can't fault was the staff who were perfectly nice. We got caught out on this occasion and really wish we had brought a picnic instead. This cafe profits from being the only sit down cafe on site. Avoid at all costs.

We enjoyed a delicious meal at this lovely restaurant when we stayed at Traquair House. My wife and I were not only surprised by the extent of choices on the menu but would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the chef on the presentation and deliciousness of the food ordered, many of the ingredients locally sourced. Nice wines too and the locally produced Traquair beers. Above all was the value for money. These are extremely fair prices for exceptionally good food and well worth a visit, even if you have to travel some distance to get here!

We ate here during our visit to Traquair House. We found the staff very helpful and friendly, and the food was freshly prepared, very tasty (and I am a fussy eater) and good value for money.

We went to the cafe during the Medieval Fair and due to having forgotten cash we found ourselves eating in the cafe. Ordered a tuna and onion panini for £8 so was expecting something quite nice- what appeared was a piece of rubbish. Dry canned tuna with large chunks of onion chucked on. The bread wasn't crisp at all and wasn't even hot. I asked for mayo to add some moisture and waited and waited then asked another waitress for mayo. I gave up in the end and left a half eaten 'panini' behind. What a rip off.
