“Ok but overrated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2013

Food is good but a bit crowded and for some reason it is really popular. Myunga across the road is far better so I would try that, we always go there instead

“Authentic Korean”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2013

This restaurant is a truly authentic Korean BBQ house with quality meats and extremely generous side dishes. Mind you there are two restaurants with the same name now. Not sure what the deal was, but there are now two Jonga Jips. The one on Row Street is the original but has changed hands. The one on Railway Parade is the restaurant run by the original owners that have made Jonga Jip a true success. The Row Street establishment's new owner seems to be excessively focused on recovering from his investment and I don't feel the warm welcoming I enjoyed with the original owners.

I've tried everything on the menu and am a frequent visitor - once a week? The BBQ meats are of high standards, unlike many others in and around Sydney and the produce used to make the side dishes are of very good quality as well.

Asian cuisine uses a lot of spices and herbs and I believe the reason for this is because the produce or ingredients haven't always been of great quality and therefore had to 'spice it up' a bit. On the other hand Australia has some of the best produce in the world. Most Korean restaurants in Australia, haven't been able to leverage off this fact and have been dishing up sub-standard dishes. Jonga Jip has broken this trend. They've married quality Australian produce with spices and ingredients imported from Korea.

We usually have the BBQ meat combination, bossam or a hot pot. Recommend the fish roe hot pot, or the beef with octopus hot pot. Have a mate that wouldn't touch the fish roe hotpot when we first went, now he has cravings for it. The pork and potato hot pot is OK, but you can get better at other places.

“Excellent Korean BBQ!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2013 via mobile

We had read reviews singing praises to this BBQ house so we decided to give it a go.

We were'nt disappointed. We ordered 2 types of marinated meats, chicken and pork. Also decided to listen to recommendations and order the seafood pancake as well. All 3 we fantastic! Meat was flavorful and the pancakes was huge with generous toppings of veggie, squid and prawns. If I had a gripe it would be that our total orders were too much for 2 small Asian stomachs. Also, I'd like to mention that the side dishes; salad, kimchi and others were very complimentary with the mains.

Even thought we had to wait to be seated, it was packed when we arrived, the service was good despite heavy traffic.
Leave your name and party size written on the white board and you may wait outside; delay smelling like beef fumes, for a couple more moments!

Would definitely recommend to others.
