We were driving though BC with an empty growler when we realized were were close to Crannog Ales. Having previously tried their beer we decided to stop by. Unfortunately we did not realize that it isn't really the kind of place you can just drop by. They do have tours if you book them and we wish we had. We weren't able to get our growler filled (they explained that they were too busy with farming) but were able to buy a growler of their cherry beer which we really enjoyed. Crannog is a perfect mix of using what you grow, growing what you need and brewing what you love. This is a very special operation and we will certainly book a tour when we are in the neighbourhood next.

Crannog Is a bit of an institution in the BC craft beer scene, and their great tour demonstrates why! Rebecca, our host, clearly explained how organic sustainable farming is so important to both their products and their philosophy.

From their unique well water to their seventeen varieties of organic hops to their chickens, sheep, and pigs to their large compost that maintains their farm soil, Crannog is a true model of sustainability and stewardship of our land.

At the end of her fantastic explanation of the brewing process complete with tasting samples of various roasted barleys, we found our way to their perfectly tiny tasting room, The Bloody Stump. Their seasonal fruit ales are amazing, the Irish red ale and Back Hand of God stout fantastic examples of authentic Irish beer, and the dry IPA a great alternative to most other BC craft beer alternatives.

Do the Crannog tour! It will give you a unique perspective of not only great beer, but a better appreciation of how we need to sustain the land that produces it. Make sure you contact them to book a time since they are very small and require advance notice.

Been drinking this beer in the summers when I'm nearby. Fell in love with the beer and it has become my standard for true craft beer. All the beers combine full flavour with balance. Mostly Irish ales with the best stout I've ever had. Check out their website to see how and where to enjoy.

Love this place and what they are about. Making beer organically. Sustainably. Using the land. A real gem.

Backhand of God has long been one of my favourite beers so I had to stop in here while in the interior. The tour they provide is excellent and includes a free tasting. Be sure you get there as early as possible though as they are very small and will sometimes run out of beer. We were lucky to get one of the last few growlers of Backhand of God they had and we were on the first tour of the day.
