Nozawa Central is superbly located in the beautiful village of Nozawa Onsen. This was our first trip to Japan, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised.
The apartments are well furnished and extremely warm. The staff are very helpful - nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in the top apartment which had a room upstairs for the children. They absolutely loved their hideaway up there (and the adults quite enjoyed them being up there!).
Everything is close by, although this is true wherever you stay in Nozawa Onsen. It is not a big place, which is part of it's attraction. Getting to the ski fields is a very easy ten minute walk through the village (less if you are impatient to get to the ski fields like me). There is a locker room on the way (very close to the lifts), so most of the walking is in comfortable footwear.
Once you are on the slopes, there is something for everyone. In our group we had a very broad spectrum of experience levels. The mountain looked after us all. There are some amazing green runs from high up (Paradise) leading right down to the resort. Skyline is a great red run leading to a sedate "green" ride into the resort, or a challenging steep and bumpy black.
In town, the restaurants are all in pretty close proximity. We visited a number of these (our favourite being Sakai, although we didn't have time to visit them all), and found the food to be pretty awesome wherever we went. The restaurants are small though. More than once we were ushered along after eating, and if you are in a big group as we were (13) then it is definitely worth booking in advance.
Going back to the accommodation, I just want to mention (again) how incredibly friendly and helpful everyone was. Mark, Eri and Hiroko - what a great team. Thank you very much!
Central village location. Close to restaurants, shops, onsens. Short walk to the slopes. Beautiful, well appointed, self contained apartments, with all the comforts of home. Amazing host team, who look after your every need. Mark B, the owner, is the ultimate host, welcoming and friendly, he knows the answer to any Japan question you may have.
I cannot recommend this complex highly enough. We will be coming back ASAP.
