For me it was a bit to Aussie. Bit like Bali in the snow.
The resort is stunningly beautiful with alpine cottages and quaint villages Hakuba is quite large with many different ski areas to choose from. We stayed in Happo. They have free local shuttle buses but they don't run all the time and at night they charge quite a lot. Taxis are also hard to come by and crazy expensive.
The review is probably not much help but for me I just wanted local culture but most of the bars were owned and run by Australians which meant pleanty or swearing and belching in front of my young daughter.
the Valley offers a variety of one day resorts to check out. The snow in Japan was awesome, some of the best I have boarded in, and I live in Utah
Fantastic place! It was my first time to ski last December and I enjoyed the experience and the place so much that I came back again this year!
Spebt the day skiing and boarding at Hakuba One. What a fantastic day, yes the visibility could have been better but at ens of the day this isa winter sport. The staff on the chairs are fantastic they are very helpful they will give you great direction and helo in any way. Almost no wait time great powder.. Don't miss this resort
Beautiful snow, although minimal grooming. We were disappointed to find that only a few lifts were open in various resorts even though the season had opened. We paid around 2/3 of the usual lift ticket price (around $50 per day AUS), despite very limited skiing. The other really surprising thing was that it seemed that the lifts were probably installed around 1998 for the Olympics - very antiquated, very rusty, and very uncomfortable chairlifts (I recall such lifts about 20-30 years ago in Australian snow fields). Some chair lifts did not have a safety bar- disconcerting when you are high up from the ground! We hoped that the maintenance was good- but not sure! The lifts also did not slow down as the chair approached, so at times they hit your leg with a punch. The attendants used a broom to dust snow off the seat, which wasn't necessary most of the time. Instead they should have caught the seat to slow it down to make it easier for the skiers to catch. We have skied around the world and have not encountered such antiquated lifts and gondolas in recent times anywhere else. More extensive grooming would also make the major runs much more enjoyable for cruisy skiers like us!
It’s a (smallish) ski-resort village. Very nice and relaxing place to be. Good for family too. Many good restaurants.
