We stayed at Hotel La Neige Honkan for 7 nights. The hotel building itself is picturesque set amongst the snow and the surrounding trees, with inside taking after an old European lodge. Adds a feeling of luxury to the place. Practicality wise the hotel has everything needed for ski accommodation- a ski room to store gear, cosy rooms - with spa baths and a replenishing supply of baths salts, and extremely nice and helpful staff. There is also a maintained track leading from the back of the hotel to the Sakka slope lifts on Happo one, probably a 250-300m walk which with ski gear is tiring but very manageable. There is a shuttle bus stop just down the road from the hotel making use of the free shuttle services to other areas of hakuba and other ski resorts easy. The included breakfast consisted of modest hot plate of food, which you can top up with a variety of pastries and toast.
We nearly missed our snow monkey tour due to the tour company neglecting to tell us the second bus was not running that day, so the hotel staff were able to get us in a car and drop us off at another pick up point to meet the first bus within 5 minutes. Really enjoyed our stay here!

Really enjoyed the ambience of this lovely hotel. The hosts were lovely and always willing to help. The food was nice. Easy walk to sakka lifts with skis and you can ski down from the sakka lift through a track to the back door. You can walk to the visitor centre and several bars and clubs.
Skii storage beneath the building. It’s least warm. The only think I could recommend is that they use the open fire on the main Living room say 4-6pm. Would add to the already lovely ambience of the hotel.

We stayed at La Neige Honka for 10 days. Our room was of great size, the spa hot tub was excellent and so was the service for the whole time we stayed.our room was modern, renovated bathroom and toilet, clean and comfortable. It is close distance to the Sakka slope- uphill for those wondering- 5 mind in heavy snow. It is only 15 mind walk straight downhill to the center of hakuba- all things we figured out later in our trip. The staff are very attentive and accommodating to all guests. There are shuttles that run for free from he road outside the hotel to different slopes and a taxi is only 1300yen from the bus terminal to the hotel. We had a great stay here, made even better by the large snow fall we had whilst we were there!

The location of this hotel is amazing offering a ski-in /ski out.
However, the hotel is in dire need of an upgrade if it ever wants to compete with newer resorts in the area. While offering a sense of European quaintness in the furniture and fittings. The facilities are very old.
We stayed in a standard room with a jacuzzi on Level 2. The jacuzzi unfortunately leaked so the tap need to be kept running if you wanted to enjoy your bath. Masking tape was being used on the windows to seal off drafts which was an interesting way of dealing with the temperature.

While the Hotel is kept clean and housekeeping do a stellar job under the circumstances with old fittings. The words that come to mind in describing the Hotel are faded glory. Right down to the signage that has taken on a faded brown appearance throughout the hotel. The room we stayed in had a strong musty odour particularly in the wardrobe. Which could easily be rectified.

The basement "Free Room" offers a selection of VHS movies, a darts board with no darts and a variety of books. The odour and dampness in this room is particularly bad and was immediately obvious. You could only stay in this room for 5mins at best.

The lobby is European style however although there is a fireplace, in the 4 nights we stayed there I never once saw this lit. Even though the temperature outside was -4 most days. It's not a place which invites you to sit and relax.

It's a shame because it's obvious this Hotel could be amazing if they decided to inject some money into upgrading the facilities for a more modern experience. They strive to capture the elegance of a European chalet but really fall short.

The staff are helpful to a degree but several times we struggled with getting assistance in booking restaurants. One evening we asked Reception to book a restaurant in the Echoland area a good 15mins from the Hotel only to be told there was no booking upon arrival at the restaurant, really not sure who or which restaurant the Receptionist spoke too whilst we were standing at the front desk.

The curtains in the bathroom are made of plastic presumably to ensure the fabric curtains behind them stay dry but this reminded me of hospital. bathroom and has a white plastic outdoor chair to be used as a washing chair.

Don't rely on this Hotel to assist with transfers, unlike other Hotels in the area they do not offer a transfer service. Your best to book Taxi's through Reception for any evening sojourns. Or take the Genki-go. There is some restaurants in the area within walking distance. Make sure you invest in a pair of snow shoe grips, the driveway is not plowed and is very icy.

Most Japanese hotels offer a couple of vending machines with food and drink options. La Neige Honkan has a small machine on Level 3 only.

Laundry facilities consist of one washer dryer combo and then a top loader. Unfortunately, there are no instructions on operation so it takes a while to work out how to use these.

If you plan on spending most of your time skiing and out and about of evening, than this place will work for you. Otherwise, the La Neige Higashi-Kan across the street may be a better option which offers a bar and cafe.

Breakfast is simple, they offer one hot meal along with a small selection of continental breakfast foods. The staff are very attentive here and offer a lovely service.

The restaurant opens for breakfast and dinner only.

I wanted to love this place and from the outside it is really picturesque. I would say it has lovely 'bones' but sadly what let's it down is the facilities that clearly haven't been updated for some time.
