This is the second time we have visited Yudanaka. It is a lovely area and, of course, near the snow monkeys. However, staying at Uotoshi raises the level of experience there. The owner's, Miyasaka-san, hospitality is among the best you will find in Japan. He goes out of his way to take care of you (delicious food, rides to the monkey park). He has good English and can provide information on the area. The Ryokan is traditional with separate men's and women's onsen (hot spring) baths. Miyasaka-san is also an expert in the Japanese Art of Kyudo (Archery) and offers to introduce you to it, if you have the time. It is a unique experience and well worth it. I can't recommend Uotoshi Ryokan enough.

We were lucky to choose this simple but so nice Ryokan. The rooms are spacious, sleeping on futons and the shared bathrooms are clean. Mr. Miyasaka is an excellent host and we really appreciated the time he offered us to show the traditional Japanese archery. He also gave us tips for nice local restaurants to have real Japanese food with the locals. The in-house onsen on the back of the ground floor was a nice place to relax and relief your body.

We stayed 6 nights in a traditional room with shared bathroom. Lovely wooden onsen to soak in at the end of each days skiing! very comfortable and it was great to hear about the history of the area from the owner. he recommended some great places to eat and gave us a ride to the train station when we left. It was so cool to see our names and a Welcome sign on the front door when we arrived!

The place is located in walking distance from the trainstation. Room was basic but like everything else very clean. The owner gives you a lift to the snow monkey park. The owner and his sister are really nice. A lot of restaurants where closed , we where there at end of january.

Lovely small town, with dense forests surrounding it and snow monkeys nearby full of friendly people.

The ryokan itself is a beautiful old building, with to wooden traditional private onsens which are very relaxing and aesthetically pleasing, these are gender separated.

The owner is very friendly and helpful as well as being a wonderful cook! Both breakfast and dinner were delicious and it was obvious a lot of love had gone into the preparation of the variety of Japanese foods presented. These foods included baked aubergine with miso paste, sashimi, tempura, soups, rice and much more!

If you have the time the archery display that the owner will show you is an honor to watch, and he will even let you have a go and be very patient with you if you aren't very good (like me!).

Full tea set, tv, and robes in the rooms when you arrive.

It's obvious the owner cares deeply about his guests having a good experience and you can really tell that the place has been in his family for years.

The owner also gives lifts up to the monkey park in the mornings, gave us umbrellas and his sister works up at the cafe there and even gave us a lift home, such lovely people!

Couldn't recommend it more highly, deserves 6 stars, just wish we could have stayed longer.
