This hotel would normally rate a 3 in my opinion, but the service and care by the staff makes it a 4.
Pros:
Staff - superb. Every request was well attended - even details. We wanted something off menu and it was brought to us with no problem, I requested to take back to my room some food and the waiter kindly wrapped up utensils and even parm cheese to go with the pasta. When we went to the pool, the lifeguard brought towels for my kids without me asking. The list goes on and on.
Pool - nice and big (we went in winter and had the pool all to our selves since the Brazilian winter feels like New England summer!). The lifeguard was there in the afternoons to evenings (as far as I can tell) and when they had special events. When he wasn't, the other staff got us towels with no problem.
Food - breakfast (we were there 5 days) had some stock items that were there every day (traditional Brazilian fare) and had some items that varied from day to day. We had lunch there once and dinner once - always a good meal. I like it that they serve their juices without sugar added and they had a wide variety (I have a fairly restrictive diet with regards to fruits but they had juices or vitaminas for the one or two fruits I can have - awesome! - one day when they ran out, the waiter brought it especially for me).
Sconces / chandeliers - very nice high ceilings with interesting chandeliers in the hallways

Cons:
Wifi - like other reviewers - works, but is SLOW. Don't expect broadband here. It's hit or miss. We were able to watch a movie one day but not the next day
Maintenance: there were a lot of little details that needed attention (my kids' shower caddy didn't have a shelf so couldn't put stuff on it, there was an outlet that didn't have a cover, etc.)
Outlets: this hotel is 70 years old and the availability of outlets confirm that.
Don't expect good tv here - not a lot of channels available.
Furniture - very dated - 70's / 80's furniture both in the lobby and game area. The room had antique-like furniture, except the 80's style office chairs were out of place.
Fitness Center: a total of three machines and weights - nothing to write home about.

Although it's a quite old hotel, it's a comfortable and quiet place to stay. Unfortunately, internet is very very bad. Also, the other hotels in the cities are not better. In the end, it can be a very nice stay; just avoid watching Kubrick's The Shining before going there. ;)

I had to stay in Volta Redonda for some months due to work.
The hotel is kind of vintage (if you know what I mean) but still, is is a quiet place to stay. The staff calls you by your name after two or three days.
In the restaurant, once a week there is live music, during the weekends there are some events as well.
The thing that caught me was the fact that the place is calm and peaceful compared to the other hotel options in town.
If you have to stay in Volta redonda for whatever reason, I recommend this hotel.

Only one negative point: the internet doesnt workk very well in the rooms.

Room Tip: choose room without carpet!
