We visited Ye Olde Greene Mann on Monday 12th February at 1pm, I was surprised at how busy the pub was on a Monday lunchtime, after a short wait we were shown to our table. The waitress Lindsey was lovely I cannot fault her attentiveness, but more staff were clearly needed in the restaurant area. The food took a fair while to arrive and whilst you don't expect your food to arrive 5 minutes after you have placed your order the wait appeared quite long. When the food arrived it was distinctly average. The mushroom starter was delicious but the bread was burnt, and the steak sandwhich had a burnt bitter taste. The onion rings tasted of cooking oil and were greasy and the apple pie and custard was lukewarm. I've eaten at Vintage Inns before and the food has been of a much higher standard. The bill came to £42 not excessive but we both felt that the meal we ate at a previous pub was a lot nicer and we wouldn't be back. The pub looks nice from the outside and internally, however, the toilets are absolutely disgusting both sets. They reminded me of village hall toilets, the food is also distinctly average. Similar to eating at a Harvester rather than a country pub. A few tweaks here and there could make this pub truly worth visiting.

We returned to the Olde Green Manne with family aged between 3 and 75. Everybody enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I had a sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection. I found it very reasonably priced for the quality of food.
I’d definitely recommend this place and hope to return soon.

We have just returned from a snack and a drink at Ye Olde Greene Manne and so disappointing. The staff were clearly rushed off their feet, The carpet is in need of a desperate hoover and worn in most places, in fact the whole place is dusty, the chef looks a mess as do a lot of the staff and the loos shabby too. All in all it looks as though it needs a thorough refurb even though it only had one a few years ago. Its a shame because the location is good and the building lovely - but we will never go back.

I held off writing the review as Lars the owner is great but the staff do let him down. My sister ended up back there with friends last week and she was embarrassed needless to say they were all again extremely disappointed. The pub is in a prime location with regular passing trade. Often a venue for wakes due to its close proximity to the local hospital and Breakspere Cremetorian , so be mindful if you’re off to celebrate - check first before visiting. The look and the feel to the pub sets a high expectation. A quaint country pub set in the out skirts of forests and many woodland walks , dogs allowed , seating outside but on a very busy main road. Inside is inviting, a bit of history to the place , cosy, and has a snug area. The car park, oh the car park - leave vehicles at your own risk - break ins and the pot holes are apparently not the reasponsibility of the pub - watch your suspension or for pedestrians watch your footing. We’ve tried several times over the years to drop in for a bite to eat but unfortunately we now give up - drinks only in future with bar snacks. I’d been under the misguided impression that the pub was an independent- trying its best . Unfortunately it’s not and now it explains everything which is wrong with the food and the service. Smiling is free . Tepid food , poor quality and as for portion sizes ridiculous. Why oh why do they insist on serving your main on a rectangular plate, is this an attempt to deconstruct a roast dinner. The baked Camembert was rock hard - probably microwaved as they just couldn’t get it right, it was blamed on a new supplier . Apparently the pub had received other complaints. Begs the question why it was still on the menu, do they take us for fools? If only the food resembled anything like the owners pictures on the website. Which brings me back to the roasts they’d run out of cabbage, served half a carrot cut lengthwise and an end to a parsnip, chef plated and served us roasties which were appalling , how can you burn half a potato and undercook the other half? No golden crispy fluffy potatoes here, the pork loan was dry, ends of the beef and peas were shrivelled , plates were cold . Health and safety was the excuse. Miserable , as we’d gone specifically for a roast there was nothing else on the menu . I mentioned I have been here many times over the years and too many misses , I’ve experienced the hunter chicken not again, tastes like it came out of plastic boil in the bag type packaging, the fish was greasy, soup out of a can? On chatting the landlords hands are tied and unable to change as they need to speak with head office. Embers Inn - if you do go lower your expectations accept its a chain who don’t really need to make any changes as the passing trade is all they need. I’d compare the food level to something like a Weatherspoons but that would insult Weatherspoons. The toilets are old and dirty, seats missing , doors not locking - they really could do with a thorough clean using bleach , if that’s alllowed anymore. You feel you need to wash your hands again once back at the table , goodness knows what bugs are on the doors .As for the disabled toilet/ baby change are disgusting , again the area needs a good scrub whilst waiting for a refurb. I’d hang on rather than risk using the facilities. You work hard for your money don’t just accept poor quality food even if Lars is great. Unable to set levels but poor all round.
