We stayed at the Hollies hotel for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend. The room was lovely and spacious with sliding doors and a patio area which we planned to use whilst our toddler was in bed in an evening but unfortunately the British weather had other ideas!
We ate breakfast on one morning of our stay and it was very nice. Cooked fresh to order and a good selection of dishes on the breakfast menu.
We didn’t get to eat at the hotel as on the Sunday we were out during the day and they only serve food for an hour in the evening which was too late for us with a child so we had to venture out for food. We also tried to go to the bar on Sunday for a drink whilst our room was being cleaned, as it hadn’t been done in the time we’d been out of the hotel, but it was closed which was a little disappointing.
The staff were very friendly and chatty. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area!

In Yeovil for a meeting I came across The Hollies Hotel. Set in a rural location overlooking fields it’s a lovely place for any occasion. The receptionist was amazingly friendly which is always nice after a five hour journey. The room was large with all the amenities you need and a very comfy bed. The restaurant was fantastic, both for dinner and breakfast. A lovely hotel, I’ll definitely be back when stopping in the area.

Stayed for three nights with a number of other families as we were attending a wedding locally. The staff were friendly and attentive at all times with out being in your face. Our room was very comfortable but lacked power points in the right place for phone chargers and the kettle, also the shower water pressure was not that good. Our breakfasts were excellent with the food being cooked to order rather than the common buffet offering found in many hotels. A minor grippe was there was no dark marmalade. The restaurant was full for both evening we ate there and the food well cooked. Would certainly stay again when in the area.

Thank you for your great review. Normally after a few guest comments, we normally consider requests for change. Whilst we offer several different marmalades, I'm not aware if we have had other requests for a dark variety, but will certainly look out for this. This type of condiment is supplied in single serve units and may not be available in this size, but thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Kind Regards, and we do hope to see you again.

The Hollies is very pretty hotel we we looked after very well we were a wedding party of over 40 going to a wedding in Yeovil next day we had a wonderful meal and the rooms were beautiful. Room included a very nice breakfast.
The only problem we had was that the rooms were very hot despite having a ceiling fan and a pillar fan which were very noisy- we are not used to a heat wave but in future air conditioning would help. Having said that I would certainly visit again

Thank you for your lovely review, and I do hope you will visit again.
Quite understand about the temperature during the heat wave, and hoped the fans helped a little.

Initial imnpressions excellent; helpful over changing booking and check-in efficient and friendly. The spacious and well equipped room, with everything you could need supplied, couldn't be faulted. Lovely patio area with table, chairs and umbrella was much appreciated. Personally, I would prefer to be given bottles of water - and a better choice on the hospitality tray, perhaps to include fruit teas and hot chocolate, rather than have a mini bar. The bed was supremely comfortable and the bathroom modern and clean. Irritated however to find that bathroom toiletries were not replenished two days running, so I had to collect from Reception. One day can be an oversight; two days is shoddy housekeeping.
Our major concerns revolve around the restaurant. First impression - a table apparently in place permanently across the fire exit. My fish and chips was dry and overcooked, evidenced by the dark colour of the batter. The requested tartare sauce was the meanest portion ever - a scant bowl of the cheapest quality sauce. In contrast to other reviewers, and maybe because the restaurant was virtually empty, there was nobody around to raise a concern with. After, I did report to the waitress, but there was no feedback or apology. As a result, we lost confidence and ate elsewhere for the rest of our stay. This experience is obviously not common, according to other reviews, but disappointing nonetheless.
Breakfast was a real disappointment - and to stop service at 9am is far too early for a holiday. Only one type of fruit juice available - and that, like the rest of the food was whisked away very promptly at 9.02, giving a poor inpression of lack of hospitality. I kbow we could have asked for more... had there been any staff visible. Very minimal portions of food were set out, again giving an impression of meanness rather than of avoiding waste. The menu promised dried fruits but these never materialised. The jams were the cheapest you can imagine - my local NHS hospital serves the same! As other reviewers have said, budget hotels offer a comparable breakfast. On the last morning, at 8.30 we were told 'croissants have sold out'. No apology or even concern. There was only one other couple in the restaurant at that time and they did not have croissants. So why, as soon as stocks ran low, did the staff not prepare more? I asked if some could be cooked and was told it would take too long. Hardly good customer service.
Looking at other reviews, it seems our experiences were unusual but that doesn't make things any better for us. It's the little things that make a difference, and I know these are small issues, but together they add up to a disappointing stay.

Room Tip: rooms with patio are lovely

Thank you for your comments, we are pleased that your accommodation met with all of your expectations, and your bed was extremely comfortable.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your experience in the restaurant, a number of points will be addressed with our staff to determine if they might have been able to assist further.

If I could clarify a couple of points for you.
There is no table across any fire door in the restaurant. The door you are referring to is the original front door the 16th-century building, but is not used as access is now from the car park at the rear. There are three other exits from our restaurant, all clearly visible, the old front door is not marked as a fire exit, although we did fit a push bar to open it so we do not have to use a key.

I fully accept a restaurant where you are the only diners does not provide much ambiance, all other 50-60 guests chose to dine outside on the front terrace as it was about 25 degrees, possibly you prefer to dine in, or maybe all outside tables were in use?

Please do accept our apologies that the croissants had all gone on your last morning, they are freshly baked each day and do take about 30 minutes, however, you should have been given the option. We do provide a choice of additional pastries and Danish, but I accept these may not be to your liking.

With regards to the jam and tartare sauce, they are both branded products. This is not something that has been raised by guests previously, but I will take your comments on board and look at some alternatives. I will also speak with each member of staff and our chef's about your meal as they try to ensure all guests are happy with their meal.

Thank you for your comments, all points will be discussed.
