We have visited this hotel before and were once again impressed with the ambience and the friendliness of the staff. We only stayed one night as it was a birthday treat but it was a lovely break. The warm fire in the main lounge was welcoming and it was interesting to read the history of the place not only on the wall but in a photo document which one of the reception staff printed out for us. We will certainly visit Friar's Carse again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Holly which wasn't big but had good views of the River With

Booked on spec. in a hotel that accepts dogs. This hotel more than met all expectations. Nice large room, great staff, excellent food and nice location. Will be visiting again - I have already booked for August. They really look after dogs!

Room Tip: I think all rooms a good; those with a dog (as ours) have a separate but great access set of rooms on the first floor - lift access to all.

We spent 3 nights at this very attractive hotel set by the River Nith, near Dumfries, in March and in glorious sunshine. The hotel is old world and comfortable with a most affable staff who looked after us so well that we will return. The food was excellent, though do book a table for dinner quite early in the day! It is a popular place.
Walks along the river and around the grounds are delightful and easy; there are some splendid drives too along the coast to the end of the earth, as it seems, at the Mull of Galloway. Dark skies too, for keen star gazers. Final note: Burns is everywhere in Scotland but this is where he came from, at the Ellisland Centre just close by. For techies, internet was free and worked well.

Room Tip: Rooms are graded; we had just an average one with river views and found it fine.

stayed last week - we got a voucher deal and that was great value for money dinner B&B. We wanted to take our wee dog but all rooms that were dog friendly were already booked. The setting is lovey and there are great walks - we went out side at night and watched the stars. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful - one thing - maybe more of a uniform would add that extra touch. We both had 2 courses and we enjoyed the food - my steak was lovely and excellent pepper sauce. Breakfast was lovely ..our room was nice and plenty of hot water. Corridors were getting a bit worn.

Beautiful hotel in a magnificent location. Nice walks along the river Nith. Remember walking boots, the paths can be muddy depending on the weather. The evening meal was excellent and good value for money. The water pressure in the shower was very low, but the hotel staff told us they are addressing this issue.

Stayed: March 2018
