“A great little Croft Cottage in a rural location - Excellent!”

The second time we have rented this cottage for a week whilst fishing the River Brora. Great location in Badnellan off the road up Strath Brora, Quiet, except the sheep and lambs, adequately furnished, well equipped kitchen, drawers full of location information, lovely open fire, good central heating and more than enough hot water for two hot baths on our return from the river. We think its great. 5 minutes by car to Brora where there are shops, Restaurants and Pubs.

“We loved it, though its probably not for everyone.”

This property is a late 19th century high quality "arts and crafts" croft-type cottage. It has not been updated, and is in need of repairs and maintenance - for example a gutter to the annex has come away from its drain-pipe, its window is rotten, and the annex bedroom feels damp. That said, the main part of the cottage is dry and very characterful and is beautifully situated one mile to the west of Brora, just off the lane to Brora Loch. The cottage has a wonderful "lived in" feel, allowing you to sense the kinds of people who lived here in the past, and has the benefit (or disadvantage) of charming period furniture, fixtures, and crockery (though there is also more modern crockery if you prefer). Guests can enjoy a log fire on cold evenings, you are greeted by an array of fishing tackle, and the cottage is surrounded with sheep and wonderful views. Despite its obvious faults, we would absolutely love to come again, and for an authentic Highland experience, it cannot be bettered.

“Cold, dank and dirty!”

We were so disappointed with this property. Our stay in April was not a comfortable one. The cottage was cold because the heating was very ineffective and the whole place smelled damp and was in need of a very through clean. Finding cobwebs and dead insects all over the house was not pleasant.
The water supply to the shower needs improvement as it dribbled out with no pressure. There was a good supply of cooking implements available in the kitchen and the bed linen was of a good quality but the bed mattress needed replacing.

“Superb well equipped rural cottage”
Reviewed 26 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Excellent self catering cottage in fields outside Brora - perfectly suited to the needs of two anglers for a week's fishing. Very well equipped with everything one could need - from wide range of cooking pots, board games, to local maps and guides and even a sewing kit. Warm central heating and plenty of hot water for two hot baths in the evening after a cold day fishing.

“Just what I needed”

My son and I stayed for one week and fell in love with the landscape and the house. The house was well equipped with all the cooking items, linens and other items we needed. The view out the front windows was breath taking. We used the two bedrooms within the cottage and didn't need to use the third bedroom at all. This was a vacation meant for relaxation and to wind down for both of us and this was perfect. We did small day trips to Dornoch, Helmsdale and Golspie and enjoyed every moment. We will remember this place for a long time.
